I had a non english speaking lady in Milwaukee do something similar, although i wasn't tailgating i was just getting ready to take off from a dead stop as traffic started moving again, she jumped in front of me and stopped before i even knew she had cut in.
Guess who got the ticket? I'll give you a hint, it wasn't me. -
Where's the professionalism gone? Putting a truck on a bumper of anything is poor driving. I don't care if that vehicle is impeding traffic or not you should not be part of the problem. Rant and rave all you want but all it does is show your rage and your inability to drive safely. Calm down and put some space between you and the problem and you'll be a much better driver plus your nerves will last longer.
-
If you don't like it don't tailgate. All I can say is get over it.
-
I don't rush to get to work I leave in enough time so I don't have too. Maybe you should try getting out of the bunk a hr or so earlier so you can get your load to destination so you won't have to tailgate and rush yourself moron. Your attitude says alot too. You don't own the road so get over it. -
First off, i never said that i tailgate, because i don't, never have.
I did say that if you have a problem with tailgaters, you should diffuse the situation properly, by getting into the proper lane. That hardly makes me a moron that doesn't leave in time, and i never claimed to own the road, either, it's called common courtesy, move right when you are done passing. By the way you spoke in your first post, I had assumed that you weren't a truck driver, because I've never met one that's as self centered as the four wheelers are with the "me first" attitude and that's exactly what you sounded like in your last post... First time for everything, I guess.
Unless you completely skipped over half the thread and missed the fact that that proper lane usage is where this conversation was going before you interjected, if that was the case then i apologize. I was simply answering for the reason that big-trucks tailgate, not saying that I was one of them. Yes tailgating is wrong, i've had some close calls because of other drivers tailgating me, BUT the thread was about WHY they were doing it, and there is a general ignorance on lane usage on the highways today so that was my main reason for posting. -
If it helps you I'm usually the guy in the slow lane. I still get tailgated. It pisses me off to no end. There is no reason for it and I don't put up with it from a 4 wheeler or a truck.
My little ole personal truck is almost 15 years old and can't hang with the others out there I can do the speed limit and thats about it. It don't set any records for speeds. I'm almost always confined to the slow lane and I still get cars and trucks right on my rear. It amazes me how everyone is in a big #### hurry. Fry me if you want for what I said about hitting the brakes or slowing down more but I won't be pushed around out there and thats all there is to it. If I'm in the proper lane and doing the speed limit I will say it again they can kiss my ###. -
My apologies, then, we got our wires crossed it seems. Just because of the previous posts it seemed like you were saying you were going slow in whatever lane you felt like, etc. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I don't agree with tailgating, but I'm willing to bet that this is the reason why it happens most of the time, and that's all that i was saying.
I was also rubbed the wrong way after i realized you were a truck driver, I know that other drivers know better than to tailgate, but on the other hand I would never do anything to endanger another truck drivers life out there, regardless of what i thought he or she was doing wrong. I understand your frustration, but we all have bad days.. You know what it's like out there sometimes.
I had a big-truck tailgating me through knoxville, i was hammerin'... Had one of those 'premonition' moments, where you look at something and think twice about it for a minute, i almost said something on the CB. A few minutes later we came around a curve, and traffic was at a dead stop, i stood up on my brake pedal, grabbed my radio and started to tell the driver behind me that we were stopping, he diddn't have time to stop, he jerked the wheel and ran over into the merge lane and rear ended a pickup. After all was said and done, i looked up and realized i was talking into a radio that wasn't even turned on
It was his fault for tail-gating, but that diddn't make me feel any less bad for him, i've pulled off the road on several occasions to give trucks behind me plenty of room to stop in that type of event, but in this case there was nowhere to go. Even if it is their fault, i'd still lose time and money over it.. Not worth the hassle, even to teach someone a lesson, and regardless of who's fault it was, if i was ever involved in an incodent where someone with a family at home was hurt or killed, i'd feel guilty for the rest of my life... It's just the way i am. I'm a 4th generation truck driver and was always raised to be compassionate toward other drivers, however the four wheelers can fly a kite as far as i'm concerned. =P At least most of 'em.

Like I've stated in my posts I DRIVE IN THE RIGHT LANE IF I'M NOT PASSING and still get tailgated when driving above the speed limit. Also like I've already said I will move into the left lane and slow down to let a truck pass if they don't pass me first. I STILL get tailgated when I have no where to go with cars all around me.
The point of this post was questioning why trucks tailgate when I'm doing above the speed limited in the city and I'm already in the right lane and either noting is keeping them from passing me in the left lane or there is nowhere for me to go because of traffic etc. You nay sayers need to learn to read and remove your heads from you're butts.
