This is a good thread. My mom had this problem on I-79 between Meadville and Erie, PA. For those of you who don't know, I-79 in this area is your basic 4 lane divided highway. Mom would be driving home from her job between 6 and 6:15pm. Approximately three times per week, she'd get chased down the road by a Ward driver. I'm presuming this was a local jerkwad. The driver had the traditional day-cab tractor and 53' trailer combo. Mom drives a Toyota Echo. She would be driving a safe, sane 65-68 mph, and this driver would get right up behind her, to the point all she could see of the truck was the grill. If she slowed down, he got closer. If she sped up, he tried to catch her. If she moved over to the hammerlane so he could pass, he'd move right in behind her. He even chased her into the breakdown lane once. I know, because I was riding with her that night. This sorta pissed me off, so one night, I took my big truck up to Erie, and followed her home. We got lucky, and good old Ward was out that night. He tucked in right behind Mom, as was his habit. We came up to a rest area, and I was behind the Ward truck. Mom pulled into the rest area, Ward went in after her, and I followed. Needless to say, that Ward driver got himself a thorough education in following distance that night. Nobody threatens my Momma. Ever.
