We’re just eliminating the middle man. Kids are unreliable and not everyone has them.
You buy candy, put it out, send your kids around the neighborhood to collect. You’d think they’d come back with MORE candy than you gave out? No, they complain that they’re tired, that some houses are too far to walk, it’s dark, it’s cold, it’s scary, my costume is falling off.
