and it sucks. it's available for consumer preview. and it's gonna be a BIG LEARNING CURVE. you all hate learning new phones and what not. wait till it's time to buy a new computer. you've got 4 more months to buy a windows 7 machine. cuz after that. the misery starts.

I love Windows 7. Im surprised how soon they came out with Windows 8.....They are trying very had to attract people who are attracted to the Mac GUI....Just like they tried to do with Vista.....possibly this time they may have created something better suited to attracted those people. A GUI that is more like a cell phone GUI.....trying to capitalize on people who can use iphones but are dumb when it comes to computers.

I use Win7 on one drive, and Zorin OS 6 on the other.. I will not be switching to Win8 anytime soon.. I also heard it is going to be geared more towards the touch screen type computers.. Have no plans on building another computer for some time, so no need for new version of windows..

i'm due for a new computer build.

there was no rolling back from 8 to 7. so i just did a wipe and reload of 7. that's the last i touch of 8.

i can see that operating system being the doom of microsoft. just like there latest phones.

and mr. gates makes a comeback. just like jobs did with apple.

I downloaded the Windows 8 preview and loaded it into a VM (Virtual Machine, i.e., VMware player / VirtualBox). I think it signals an admission by Microsoft that operating systems such as Ubuntu, Suse, BSD, and other free versions are gaining increased popularity and acceptance by home PC users. So, instead of focusing on the laptop and desktop OS market, they are concentrating their efforts on the smartphone/tablet market. Personally, I think it's a brilliant move. While a household might have just one PC or laptop, they are very likely to have multiple phones and tablets. I think what we are seeing is a repeat of what happened in the early 80s with DOS. Bill Gates made millions because of the licensing fee he received for each copy of DOS installed on a PC. The same would be true with the smartphones and tablets, and there are going to be many, many more of those than desktops and laptops.

I don't really care for what I saw of Windows 8, but I was not using it on a tablet or smartphone, so I really did not get a feel of what it was designed for. I will probably upgrade when it is released; it can't be worse than Vista, ME, NT, or 98 first edition.
