Along with the 12'6 markers for snow clearance, scary for a new driver not knowing they mark everything on the expressway a foot lower when going underneath the apartments...........

Thought they repaved the Cross Bronx recently? Haven't been there I a few years but I could've swore I read it was redoneprostartom Thanks this.

If your below exit 10 take the 287 and depending where your going 87 to 84 or 684 to 84.
-
Yes the cross Bronx is mostly smooth now with the exception of some whoops in the left lane around exit 2. I make sure to avoid those because it will cause your cargo to do flips if you hit them fast enough. Also got to watch out for the 4wheelers gunning up the on ramps.
They also fixed all the huge holes on the bridge itself. Now they have a huge steel plate all the way across the Northbound side on the NY side. Dam thing is over an inch thick and is basically a speed bump.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
9W used to be a common cut-through for trucks trying to dodge the GW and NYC, but they shut that down back in the 80’s sometime by making it a restricted route for trucks up on the New York side. Occassionally I’d have to go up 9W on the Jersey side to get to a shipper in Northvale, but if I was trying to bypass NYC to get north I’d go 80 west to 17 north and pick up 287 over the Tappan Zee. And if you catch the Tappan Zee at off peak hours the toll is even less.

Within the past couple months I've run to CT twice. Both times took the Tap just after morning rush hour and ran over to 95. Some slow traffic at times but overall, for that area, not too bad.
-
That's my preferred route. BTW it's now called Gov Mario Cuomo bridge incase you were trying to find it on the map.Trucker61016 and bigguns Thank this.

Mine too. Coming back out of the city going back up to Binghamton if traffic was super heavy on 80 I'd run up 17 catch the thruway and run up NY17 back to Bing. A little bit longer but way better than fighting traffic all the way homeDave_in_AZ and Redtwin Thank this.
