Trying to buy a Kenworth T660

It was a suggestion to see what's available , there is 55 CASCADIAS in your $40,000.00 to $45,000.00 price range on TRUCK PAPER ranging from 2008 to 2010 models and 500,000 to 800,000 miles

 

When I started my o/o I started with a kw w900L ... with that cat SDP. Was real shiny, big, nice to drive truck. Problem was it put money in everybody's pocket ... except mine. Got rid of that truck and have a 2000 FL classic with a detroit 12.7 s60. It has (in km) 2.1 million, was rebuilt at 1.45, oil samples are still coming back very clean. I get 6.5-7 mpg all day every day and I have no emissions headaches. The power is somewhat low and the ride and look of this truck leave a lot to be desired, but this old truck makes WAY more money than the KW ever did. I paid 18,000 for this truck in April 2013 and have put 237,000 km on it so far. I do have a lot of repair bills, but no truck payment. Most of the repairs are not things that must be fixed immediately. I have been slowly rebuilding the entire truck and will eventually end up with basicly the equivalent of a new glider. This truck enables me to work less and still earn a good living. I am waiting to see how much of an effect Cali will have if they do indeed close their borders to all the old trucks running in and out of there today. That will influence my decision to buy a newer truck or not more than anything else. I do want a big shiny pete, but what I want more is to continue working a part time week here and there as I please and enjoying more of my time. The new truck will still be there, when I am good and ready.

 

You can't just pick one model or brand and say it is better than another. Trucks are all basicly the same, just different looks. The selling point for me on my current truck was it had already been rebuilt with paperwork. Even if you buy that columbia and it needs a rebuild in short order, detroits can be rebuilt for much less than cat or cummins. I had planned to only keep this truck for a couple years maximum, but now I am thinking why not drop a new reman engine in when the oil samples say it is time? The rest of the truck is in great shape. It has a new transmission in it. New engine and new rear ends and all the major components are good to go until it dies for good.

 

If it hasn't been rebuilt yet it probably won't be long until it needs it. If the dealer can provide past oil samples and the motor isn't screaming for a rebuild right now then I might roll the dice with it. Anything with a cummins cm871, watch Rawze's youtube videos and look for the signs if the emissions system has been taken care of. It is hard to say buying any truck without seeing it in person and looking over it yourself.
