Ok here is the deal...I am ready to go trucking, NOW. I know there are many big companies out there, I'l use PRIME as an example, that pays while you train and get you your CDL. My question, is there any FLATBED companies out there that do the same without having to spend a yr pulling a refer? I have become very interested in the flatbed division, love the hard work to me very rewarding, but it seems like the training companies all want you to pull refer first. I still havent given up on the local contact, i am just trying to line out more options. Any flatbed Co's out there hiring and training from ground up....

There are plenty of flatbed companies that hire recent CDL school grads with no experience. I don't think there are any that will train you for your CDL though.

So you use Prime as an example and conveniently forget they have a flatbed division? That needs drivers? You may have to do your initial training in a reefer, and then go out another 30 days-ish to learn load securement.

@dragontamerbrat - No i didnt CONVENIENTLY forget PRIME had a flatbed division. I am well aware they have a flatbed division BUT why go out and train for several weeks to 6months in a dry box or refer if I can find a company to start me in flatbed division and gain the experience I want from the begining...

Well, if there is a flatbed trainer available you can go out right away. You know that.

You're getting the fever. Be careful, focus on something else for awhile. You're about to do the NooB Mega Carrier thing, don't make a fast decision that could mess up a lifetime career.

You're in OKC- best place in the U.S. for a driving job. Google something like "Oklahoma Flatbed Trucking Companies". Weed out the bottom feeders, pick out a good match- run it by the experienced flatbed drivers here and see if anyone has worked there. Get an opinion or two and jump in. Just not too soon or without checking them out thoroughly.

The big companies feed on new drivers with the fever, you can get used and discarded before your career gets off the ground..

@dave - Doing the Mega Carrier thing is hopefully the LAST RESORT :( found local flatbed company willing to train but we are not able to come together last few weeks to finalize details. I am just trying to line up more options should this fall through. Currrent job is driving me absolutely nuts need change. @Dragon according to recruiter they would rather me start and train refer then transfer to flatbed at later time....
