Most pay up here in the patch hauling water is straight pay. 25.00 to start is average 32.00 hr. is where a w-hauler will top out in 6 months to a year depending on if you are a real worker or cry baby. If you have your own rig 130hr. is the average rate, the work is easy but hard on equipment, and getting your truck worked on well 2 or 3 weeks just to get it looked at. My suggestion if your new to the ND patch is come work for someone first and get a good look at how we do things up here even if it's for 3 to 6 months. Where I work the driver pay is salary start at 83,000 a year housing and medical ins. is included. I make 96,000 plus housing and medical paid twice a month, 2 weeks on and 1 week off. Last year was brutal this year has been a cake walk so far, wait a minute let me find some wood to knock on lol. We had a huge blizzard last April 28th 2011 so you never know whats around the corner up here. I've worked both Texas and ND. I love Texas but the money is here but I'm looking to buy a vacation house on Galveston Island TX. so I'll work here so I can retire earlier to the Island. I presently live in TN. Priceline gets me home on Delta 450.00 round trip not bad. Hope this info helps anybody wondering about the ND.Patch do your homework there are cheats up here.

Just signed up but loving all the info! No oilfield exp but 20+ years construction and will have my CDL with all endorsements end of FEB. Would love to find one of those jobs like the Baker Hughes but they have not had any job fairs posted in the near future. Any advice on comparable packages with companies that will hire newbies?

 

anyone have any opinion between hauling a tanker in ND vs. getting on somewhere to haul dirt/gravel? obviously there's the seasonal difference (which doesn't bother me), MANY people have told me there's stupid amounts of money to be made going out there and i've been waiting to... short long story, i was hired at a small company in MN (primarily OTR, but they have some trucks leased to one of the ND companies, a couple hauling oil, one or two for water- i was supposed to haul water). this was last Nov; i've been doing OTR in the meantime, because the water hauling has apparently "dried up" (or so i've been told). but their crude trucks have been kept busy. normally, i'd have thrown up my hands and moved on by now, but everyone there is really nice, i was referred to them by someone whose opinion i respect, and if/when things ever happen, it would be really convenient for me for a number of reasons.

but... i've also been told there's a lot of money to be made pulling a side-dump out there, and by the descriptions i've heard, the construction driving sounds like it would be easier on equipment. i wouldn't care *too much, but easier on equipment would mean less likelihood of breakdowns, and if the money is there like everyone says it is, i want to lease and then buy a truck of my own to take out there.

so... shoot for hauling oil or dirt?

 

Would barracks be considered a suitable place to stay?

 

Anyone have some numbers on an average rate per barrel to haul crude?

 

I don't know daf I guess that would depend on the barracks and the person staying in them. Most of our guys (and girls) have apartments or houses to stay in, although they put you up in a mancamnp for orientation, which is kinda like a barracks I guess except for you have a private room. I guess if it were me and we were talking about Full Metal Jacket style barracks the answer would be no it wouldn't be a suitable place to stay at all, I'm not 19 anymore so I need my own place.

 

tnief I don't have any exact numbers for you per barrel, that depends on how far you haul it and who you are hauling it for. I think most of it is either hauled on a contracts bid per bbl for smaller companies and O/O's or in our case we bill hourly and the driver gets a percentage just like hauling water or anything else. I can tell you that I haven't ever talked to a company driver or anyone working for a leaser who was hauling oil who ever claimed to make less than $600 a night. I work nights so I end up talking to all the night guys. I don't know if it's like what I do and pays more at night other places. Where I work you get another $5 an hour for working the night shift and that's for hauling freshwater, saltwater, oil, whatever.
