I'll likely be getting my CDL and looking to go OTR in a few months, but I rather like the comfort of technology, and I'm wondering how far exactly I can go with keeping up as much as possible while on the road, even if I won't have much time to take advantage of it.

Am I wrong in assuming that I can have: a flat screen tv, slingbox with an unused cable box at home, (if so, can I use the slingbox service to record/watch stuff on a DVR?) a laptop with some sort of sattelite internet?

Of less importance, what about: a gaming console, a microwave?

You can definitely have a laptop with cellular broadband, either tethered through your phone or with an "aircard."

If you're using a Slingbox you'd probably just watch TV on your laptop, unless you're planning on getting a TV that's considerably larger than your laptop screen. You can use your Slingbox to watch video from a DVR but it doesn't serve as one itself I don't believe.

You can feasibly have a game console and a microwave too, but only dependent on whether you have the inverter capacity to handle them, which may be a problem if you're a driver for a company that doesn't allow hardwired inverters (but then you can also do the jumper cable or tiny generator route if you're really desperate for power).

You won't be able to get the bandwidth, at least not consistently and cheaply enough to justify getting a slingbox. You would be better served with a satellite....the best service is DTV, at least their satellite is high enough off the horizon that you should be able to get a signal just about anywhere.

Probably not all over the place. It would probably work alright sometimes, depending on where you are. The slingbox site says you need to have at least 600 Kbps down for streaming which seems feasible.

Here's a graph of network speeds in some major cities:
