I got my CDL in 2011. I drove for 5 months with a company but then had to quit due to family emergency. I then tried again in 2014 with another company and it didn't work out. Only worked 2 months with them. How do I get back into driving? I see most companies require 6 months in the last 18 months. Or something similar. Any help is welcome.

Just write down you drove for 6 months on the app. Most companies are just looking for a heartbeat behind the wheel.

Most will likely make you put in some time with a Trainer but that's life and if you want to drive bad enough you buck up and do it.

I spoke to a few companies like US Xpress and Knight and was told I don't qualify because I haven't drove enough in the last 18 months. I heard I could do a refresher course but Im sure that costs some decent money to do. I would go out with a trainer in a heart beat if given the chance. Just need to find a company that will accept me and give me the chance.

Must have been quite the family emergency to take off 3 yrs from trucking, hope all is well on the home front now.If you had more exp to begin with I think companies would cut you some slack. But considering the time frame between 5 months and 2 you'll probably have to start from ground zero and go out with a trainer like FLATBED said.

There's many companies to choose from, you'll just have to keep on looking and make some calls.

You're basically starting over except you're in a slightly worse spot than a brand new driver because you have a CDL but it's been so long since you've gotten it and you haven't done much with it. Good luck.
