    1. What types of makes/models/year trucks does Crete use?

    2. What are you allowed you put in a company truck as far as like a TV/fridge those types of things?

    3. New driver pay what is it?

    4. Do all the trucks come with satellite radio or will the company let you install one if the trucks don't come with them?

    5. What is the company truck idle policy?

    6. How are the trainers/training from the company?

    7. As a new driver is it a good company to work for?

    8. What speed are the trucks governed at?

    9. I know the company has a few divisions which would be best to try and start with?

    Thank you in advance!!

You can only put portable fridges/TVs in the trucks, You are not allowed to modify the truck in any way, put holes in the dash, sleeper, anywhere. You will sign a paper when you go to work for crete stating so, and they will charge you for repairs to the truck if you modify it, when you turn the truck in.
Since you are a new driver, you probably don't understand the impact of this.

There are no satellite radios in the trucks. You want one? You buy and pay the monthly fee on one, but it can't be an 'indash' type.

As far as a fridge, it has to be one that will run off the cig lighter plug, and anything else you want to run in the truck has to use a cig lighter plug, also. You're not allowed to run wires to the battery or modify the truck electrically.

The trucks are governed at 62 mph.

You don't need to worry about the 'best'. Just start work somewhere, get some experience and keep your record clean, then look around and move on in a year or two.

I don't think Crete is a 'good' company. It's just typical of any large, dry van company...maybe worse in some ways, slightly better in a few.

The idle policy varies with terminal, truck, and season, but you may not have a choice of whether you want to idle or not. The truck will decide that. Some of the trucks have APUS, some have webasto heaters, some have optimized idle, some have the battery operated sleeper AC systerm. Some have none of the above.

Talk to the recruiters about pay.

according to website, if u are "student (no experience)...$500 per wk while training then 34 or 35 cpm when on your own...also says training is NOT 24 hour "team" driving...thats a huge plus- means your trainer is actually paying attention to you. pay rate is darn good for no experience driver too. 75% of fleet have apu...means u have a 3 outta 4 shot of real comfort. they have lease purchase, but dont let ANYONE talk you into that until you have some real experience (at LEAST one year, better 2) and you have some experience with the company and talk to drivers doing it...at least 10 drivers on lease purchase. i believe shaffer pays a bit more, but maybe not with no experience (shaffer is refer division of crete). i have zero experience with crete, but havent heard enuf bad about them to cross em of my list if i were making one. if i were new driver looking for otr, this company would most likely be near the top of my list because of pay rate and apu. call up the recruiter...also ask for average driver miles per week and average length of haul. a good pay rate only means so much...you need to be getting decent miles as well. (companies ive worked for have usually said average miles per week 2500...ive always averaged closer to 2900 at least).
also says 401k (no match) and profit sharing after 1 year. looks awesome on paper anyway

    Brownsfan16 Thanks this.

    And remember, recruiters never lie....

    :)

The 401k match and profit sharing is small, almost not a consideration.

Pokerhound has never worked for Crete, he is reading the PR BS off of the 'net.

I have worked for them for 3 years.

Crete considers an APU to be either a diesel engine powered APU, or a battery operated AC unit, with a webasto heater.

The battery operated units work ok when the batteries are fresh, and you are not parked for a long time. They will not keep the whole cab cool on a hot day. They're only intended to keep the sleeper area cool, with the bunk curtain closed, while you sleep, and sometimes they will not do that on a hot day.
Most of the trucks will not idle more than an hour, hour and a half.
They will shut off at that point. It used to be 3 hours, allowing the battery operated APUs to recharge. Now, it's been cut back to 1-1/2 hrs. If the batt operated APU or heater isn't working right, you are screwed.
If you are sitting more than 10-12 hours, which happens, you are screwed.

These are facts, not some PR crap read off the company internet site, and as far as I can tell, Crete isn't buying diesel powered APUs anymore...just the battery operated stuff.
