You don't ever have to get it tagged after you purchase it if you don't drive it.. Legally it's not supposed to be on the road without a registration regardless of when you bought it. A temp tag is usually good for 30 days.

I just did this. I got a hunters permit and short term insurance. It was the only way to do it being that I don't have my own authority and I'm not leased on to anyone.

Turn the keys on and the lights on at night and drive. No one is going to bother you.

Call it a RV and add it to you car insurance.
