I once came across a driver at a truck stop who had a camcorder mounted on her dash. I asked her what it was for and she said it was a Beta test unit, the purpose of which was, like police cars, to record any incidents, like accidents (determine fault), or prove, hopefully, innocence, in a court of law, when fighting say a citation. Well, you get the idea. After 24 hrs, it then over-writes the day, assuming no accident or anything. Are there any drivers familiar with a computer program w/camcorder or webcam (preferably multiple recorders, front and both sides) similar to the above and, if so, where one could be purchased? Appreciate any help. Thank you.

A quick google search for "truck camera system" found at least one company that does it.
I came across info on a system on youtube once but I don't have the address for it.
I thouht about using one of those Hard Disk Drive camcorders an setting the resolution on the lower side. This would allow you to get more than 24 hours of video non-stop depending on the size of the hard drive. I think it's a good idea to have this camera and I've heard of people burning the video straight to a DVD-R after an accident and handing the video right to the investigating officer on the scene of an accident.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Do a search on the threads. Many drivers have written how they have set up their own recording systems for their trucks. More and more companies are using them now. I personally think it is a great idea since most accidents are caused by the 4 wheelers. Nothing like fighting a lawsuit with video.

First off, let me say that I simply failed to do my homework. With a little effort, I was able to locate several interesting recorders with prices starting at $100 to over $1,000. The below attached unit has a 32 GB storage capacity and capability to monitor the perimeter of a truck via up to four cameras. I haven't obtained this unit cost; but, I feel that it easily exceeds $1,000. When I have the information I will post it. The manufacturer is Rearse. Forum rules forbid links, so Google away, if interested. I will, later in the day, post some more moderately priced units. Most capable of one camera and storage capacity of approx. 1 hour, at which time, barring any need to preserve a record, it overwrites the stored data. Most units have a GPS capability and units like the above listed Rearse, I believe, record speed, etc., and are legally admissable in a court of law. I'm sure no driver needs me to tell them the value of that capability.

If you have a Video Recorder for posting, or wish to share your knowledge and experience with those of us that would like to learn about these valuable devices; please post to this thread:
Drivers, share your experience with Vehicle Video Recorders
This thread, initiated by myself, was off the mark. It's not where they can be found that's important. It's what is your experience with them? What is the price range? And, what are the capabilities of these units? Thank you for your participation. It seems to me that this is too important of a tool for drivers. And, it appears that first hand reports are not to be found on any other threads for some reason. Hopefully, that can now be corrected. -
P.S. The Stuntcam DVR ($195) is upgradable to 500GB!!! Also, capable of monitoring up to 4 cameras simultaneously (cameras not included w/DVR). They offer IR Nightvision cameras for $109 ea. The DVR can be set to run continuously while driving and motion activated when parked for security. I'm sold on it and intend to purchase the above setup within the next 30-45 days. I believe I read that you can hook it up to your laptop also. -
Are these suitable for personal vehicles as well?
