At the Louisville truck show back in March 2011, I saw at lease four vendors selling all kinds of video recorders, Front, Sides, and the back of the truck or the trailer.

I bet, I will see double that this year, at the truck show in March 22,23,24,2012

There is an App for this if you have a smart phone with a good camera. It's called "Dailyroads" and it works quite well. Best of all... it's free! I have a Droid X with a dash mount that gives a good view of what's in front of me all of the time. It's not as good as a fish eyed lens but it does the job. Records in 1 to 5 min increments and you set how much or how little storage capacity it takes. It can also track speed and GPS location. You can even push a capture button and upload the previous two or three increments to the web for private or public viewing. Also, it works in the background during calls.

It's worth looking into if you wanna just use it for bad weather or big city driving. I played with it for a good while and then I finally bought a cheap "car DVR" for about 35 bucks off ebay.

that little link there is getting knda useless as it can't run on the latest windows operating system. or macs at all

that daily roads could be a very good app. needs to get rid of the green lines on video playback. but if you can find a mount to keep your phone laying sideways on the dash. i don't see how you can beat it.
