Hello all,
posted here a few times regarding my struggles during my CDL training ( Difficulties in learning to back, shift, double clutch, and very slow progres being made )
I have received nothing but positive feedback & encouragement from the forums, For that I thank you !
However this past friday kind of took the wind out of my sails, Some background..
I have had a prehire offer from R****L Transport since early July { my second week of school }
I tested on July 29th and Killed pre trip & air brake test, However I did not pass parallel parking & was no allowed to move on to the road test.
My instructors & myself agreed that I was "Just Not There Yet" And at that time I decided to pay for three more training sessions before retesting again. ( School policy is you get three chances at the test )
Due to the cost of the additional training sessions & a communication issue, I was not able to take then till this past week ( Weds,Thurs,Fri.) With my test being on friday.
I have kept my recruiter informed all along, and have been upfront & honest about everything !
So... Friday I test out, And I pass the skills test, then on to the road test which unfortunately I came up short on ! { Retesting monday the 26th. }
Anyhow when I get home I have a voice mail from the recruiter asking how I made out, I call her right back & leave a detailed message of how I passed the skills but not the road test.
& telling her I am retesting first thing Monday morning and will call her as soon as I pass the test.
Well not two minutes go by, when she calls me back ( I was in the shower so she left a message} informing me that "Because this was my second attempt that I now needed to get at least six months driving experience & reapply as a experienced driver"
I really didn't expect this ! Now i'm the kind of person who always believes everything happens for a reason, But it was a much better feeling when I thought I had a job waiting for me I̶f̶ when I obtained my CDL !
Trying to remain positive... But #### !

Ouch. I'm sorry that happened. You know what, though. It's just one company. There are a lot of others out there. Keep working on passing that test and keep getting applications out to more companies. Things will line-up sooner or later.

Np. That is the attitude you have to have. Never let anyone tell you couldnt do it. What caused you to not pass if you dont mind me asking.
KingTrucker, mje and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Have you applied to other companies? There are more out there than the one. It's pretty easy to figure out who it is and maybe you'll get a better offer from another company.
mje and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
This company is worth the follow up.
Regardless of what that recruiter said,
after passing your road test,
call her back.
Lay on the charm, and sell yourself.
She has the authority to change her decision.......woody71, mje and Lone Gunman Thank this. -
You DO have a job waiting for you when you get your CDL. YOU are in DEMAND in this business. Don't sweat it, I guarantee someone will snatch you up right quick!
Tonythetruckerdude, drvrtech77, Lone Gunman and 1 other person Thank this. -
Perhaps he'd like a good job,
away from all these bottom feeders...
Bumpy, mje and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
May be this is for a reason....a recruiter that has a potential employee go the length and trouble you went through to keep her up to speed on what's going on with you should be thrilled to see someone with such enthusiasm. Cut your loses, start reapplying at other places , you'll find an open door I'm sure...but don't limit your self to the mega's...apply anywhere they will accept an app. LTL, food service, tanker (if you plan on getting the endorsements required) beverage companies....lots of choices out there. Remember the only limits you have ....are the one that you put there. All these companies can do is say "no thanks" you need more experience...that's painless...but who knows you may hit the jack-pot....once you do get hired , I would give that recruiter lady a shout and let her know of her loss.....Good Luck!
drvrtech77, mje, Lone Gunman and 1 other person Thank this.
