Ok so right now Swift has both me and hubby ticked. He's supposed to be home next Friday and he'll have been out for 4 weeks at that time. He got a load to Maine where his family lives and he was running out of hours so he could do a 34 hour reset and he talked to somebody about it and they said that was fine. His DM was out but everything was cleared. He was there longer than 34 hours and today when he called Swift because he still didn't have a load they told him that he wasn't getting a hometime because he was stopped longer than 34 hours and they said they had been trying to reach him but his cellphone never rang from them at all and the guy in the office he talked to in memphis KNEW it was just a 34 hour reset and he was the one who told him to set his PTA for later. The person he talked to today told him he'd have to stay out another 4 weeks before he could go home....UM NO it has been long enough and I will not go 8 weeks without seeing my husband.

Has this happened to anybody else? He was never told that this 34 hour reset would be counted as home time or he never would have stopped to see his dying grandfather :( Also, since his DM is never there how does he go about getting a better one who actually works and is there when he needs something?

So, let's see.. he requested to spend a few days with family in Maine (more than 34 hours), and now you're mad because they consider that as his home time break? From the company's perspective, he's keeping their equipment sitting idle and costing them money, so I feel that they have a point. Especially since he did not check in when his 34 was up, AND he didn't give them an opportunity to get the full value of his 70 by getting him a load out of Maine with the hours that he had left.

If I were in that situation, I'd carefully weigh the benefits of working for Swift against the negatives, and make a decision whether or not continuing to work for Swift made sense to me.

Sounds like typical blind chimpanzee banging on a keyboard B.S.

1 - Official messages are suppose to come thru the QCOm . If it aint in writing in don't count. (just remember that works BOTH ways )
    2- Swift's policy is out a minimum of 12 then 2 off .
3 -Resets are NOT hometime , if they were no one would get home.
4- Call HR in Phoenix , be prepared to be on hold awhile thou , I spent 53 minutes waiting before I
    gave up.

I agree with windsmith. If he had just enough out to get back home but wanted to do a 34 and then stayed off more than 34 he isn't entitled to hometime.

It's the same where I'm at. If I have hours to get home from terminal which is 15 minutes from my moms house but I chose to do a 34 and go visit my mom that is my hometime at that point.

Did that ever happen to me? Nope, but I don't work for Swift either. IMHO, he's getting screwed over.

It's one thing if a 34 is required but if he had hours to run but took 2 days off that is his hometime. IP aren't you a lease driver at prime? That may be why it hasn't happened to you.

He asked for a 34 because he had a load going to Lewiston Maine and the person in the office was the one who told him to set his PTA for longer than 34 but did not tell him that was going to count as his hometime and this was the first 34 hour reset he has taken.

I feel for ya. Ive been in training for 8 weeks and aint seen my wife in 4. When I get released it will be about 6 weeks since I have seen her, but he should have asked and got claification on it. I would have at least. One poster said that he should have gotten it on the Q/C. If he would have he'd have a better chance of getting that reversed. Also, to answer your question no that exact situation didn't happen to me, but we were on a run going through my hometown. I was going to do about 500 miles to get there then do my 10 hour at the house and my trainer was going to stay in truck at wLmart. My wife and I had a great romantic evening plan. 100 miles out. Get QC message. Had to tcall the load and head back north. Had to cancel on the wife. It was hard but its the life of an otr driver. Good luck hope you get to hold him soon.
