Hello,
I start school next week at central tech in drumright, OK, and will be paying for myself. I am looking at a few different flatbed companies, but in my research I have found that company websites are vague about their tuition reimbursement programs. Do they generally all operate in a similar fashion? For example, do they pay you $50 per week until the full amount is paid, which is what I would prefer, or do they expect you to complete so many months with them and then issue a balloon payment? Tuition reimbursement is not the maker/breaker in choosing a company, but if I had a choice I would choose one without a restrictive reimbursement program.
thanks!

Not sure about other companies, but I do know schneider pays $150/month until it's paid off OR until you leave. Took me about 18 months before it was completely paid off. Other companies that
hire graduates are probably similar. Would definitely ask a recruiter about this.Johnjohn Thanks this. -
Some companies won't pay for reimbursement unless that trucking company supports the school you attended. So say you go to TMC once you graduate,if TMC doesn't recognize that school you attended, they may not reimburse you.

Yes, they are all going to operate more or less the same in the way the reimburse tuition and/or pay sign-on bonuses. There won't be a lot of difference between one or the other (or at least not enough to be a "deal breaker") Some may do it weekly and some maybe monthly. I might be more inclined to seek out those who claim to reimburse weekly if there are any and assuming it works out about the same, and all other things being equal.
The bigger question may be which ones actually consistently pay the advertised way, from day one vs. which ones "forget a lot, especially in the beginning" -
Thanks guys. My school has a good rep, and in fact TMC, Melton, and Boyd send recruiters there, and those are companies that I am looking at so I am happy about that. Further, my tuition is only $2550 as I am an OK resident and a vet. That is a small enough amount that other criteria are more important, as Stexan stated. I just don't want to have to sign some restrictive contract to get the tuition back. It appears some of the learner carriers have an almost indentured servitude approach.

Check System Transport as an option.

I went with KLLM. I did not research flatbed.
They paid $150 monthly and a final payout at the end of one year, up to IIRC $4500.
Plus orientation paid something like $350 for the three days.

I don't know about TMC or Melton but I can tell you Boyd's policy on it. Can't say if they do it that way yet or not as my bf is still with his trainer. Their reimbursement policy is $150 a month after you are solo until it's paid off or you quit.
They also pay $500 a week during orientation and training.
Best of luck with whichever company you choose.
