I hate writing emails asking questions that should be answered on a company's website, but aren't, so since these appear not to havae been answered, I will ask:I became aware of something this past weekend that might mean I have to go to the local CDL school, which I can afford. It is not a CDL mill and is highly regarded in the industry, so I'm confident that I will come out of it with fairly good beginner skills, but if I didn't have to pay, it would be better.
- Does Prime offer tuition reimbursement for an outside CDL school?
- For those going to an outside CDL school (not Prime's apprenticeship training) is there a list of "acceptable" schools or do they care?

G'day DD. Your question is right on target. While I cannot answer the question I can say with confidence that you should give the recruiting staff a call. For one, I can say the recruiter I spoke with at Prime was not in a hurry when we spoke. He answered all my questions and went into detail regarding medical equipment such as my cpap and Rx.
I spoke with a FFE recruiter last week and I had additional questions but the recruiter seemed to be in a hurry and said my questions are addressed in the information packet she would send me via Email, not!
On second thought, even my other favorite company did not address my concerns re Rx other than to say the meds would be up to the company doctor. It's like Spyder's case: show up and we will send you packing the nest day but we (the recruiters) can't give you an answer beforehand. I'm upset with Spyder's case. If they took time to know him he would have started his second week of school today and made a loyal and fantastic employee, I.M.H.O. -
Communication with potential employers is critical for me, too. I've pushed the company that was #1 on the list for a long time entirely off the list because no recruiter called back and emails were not answered. I'm not a big fan of showing up one day and being sent home the next for something that should have been covered before anybody's money was spent.GSWx Thanks this.

I can tell you that a year ago we got the reimbursement, but yes, check with the recruiter to make sure they still offer it and at what rate. When we got it last year we got $1200 of it reimbursed.

It's in the "Get Paid A Month Earlier" category.

Just to clarify that, trainees don't start getting the big bucks until they've earned the CDL.

What school you are looking at -
A local school here in Michigan, West Michigan CDL. It is highly regarded school by the trucking companies I have called, not one of the huge CDL mills out there.

Talk to recruiting about that... they can be picky about such things. At least this way, you won't have any ugly surprises once your done.
Per Seebs, you may want to keep your money in your pocket, and take advantage of 100% reimbursement of tuition via the PSD program.
