22 e to 20e to 285n to 85n
Try to go through Atlanta before 0530 or after 2000 or there will be trafficCDL CPL Thanks this. -
Like ncmickey said, you wanna take the 285 around Atlanta rather than going thru downtown. But if you have to do it during the day, I find there's a whole lot less traffic going around the south side of the city, rather than the north side. Even though its a few more miles, it can still be a lot less time and cussing. There is a sharp turn you wanna watch out for on the southwest corner of the map though. Slow it down to like 45mph for that.
There isn't another super-huge city until Washington DC, so you should be good the rest of the way except for maybe some slow traffic around Charlotte.Last edited: Sep 30, 2017

Cars move quick out east. You take it easy. If there's more than 3 lanes, you want to be in the second lane from the right, unless there's only 4 lanes and signs saying no trucks in left two lanes. You don't want to hog up the leftmost truck lane.
Don't worry about moving over to let cars onto the highway. They'll figure out a way around you and they won't hate you for it. Of course big trucks coming on are a different story. You want to try to get over if you can, but they'll understand if traffic is blocking you.
If you need to change lanes, put your signal out early. Sooner or later someone will let you in. But watch out for traffic two lanes over. Make sure noone tries to merge into the same lane you're moving into. And don't shut off your turn signal before you finish your lane change. Leave it on until you are all the way into the lane you are moving into.Last edited: Sep 30, 2017

If you hit the Atlanta I-285 bypass between 9am and 1pm and go south the extra few miles around the bypass to I-85 you will see minimal traffic. BTW, you MUST take the 285 bypass as through trucks are not allowed in the city except for local deliveries.
If you don't have it, get Trucker Path. Its invaluable for finding truck stops and there are some awesome good places to eat at the non-chain stops. Cheapest fuel on your route will be in SC. Parking can be scarce in the Carolinas so plan accordingly. Avoid the Pilot at I-85, exit 35 in Piedmont, SC unless you want to waste an enormous amount of time.

Thanks a lot guys!! Totally right about Atlanta, what a #####! All the tips were really helpful, did atlanta early in the morning still had some traffic but not to much to complain about, Frank is right about bypass 285 trucks MUST take it, wouldnt want to go though it anyway for sure. For others to know though my Garmin tried taking me through downtown luckily with your tips and some fast sign reading we managed to hit the bypass accordingly. Road work kinda sucked but thats anywhere,
I thought that trucks wouldnt be allowed into DC, (wife wants a mini vacation) i think well still plan on calling a cab or Uber,
Again thanks sooo much for the tips, its people like you that make this industry bearable lol, much appriciated!!! Be safe out thereslow.rider Thanks this. -
