In my ever-continuing search for HP and fuel mileage on the cheap, I keep stumbling across ads for Turbo Socks or Turbo Blankets. Anyone here have any experience with them?
The theory seems sound enough, but I have yet to run into someone using one and pick their brain for first-hand info.
I found this one: http://crdpower.com/product.sc?productId=21 and am thinking of trying it out.
No offense to the theorists out there, but I'm really looking for those that have actually ran them to chime in here.

I added the Pittsburgh Power turbo blanket to mine when I upgraded to their larger turbo and ported exhaust manifold for my Cat 3406E. I can't say how much the blanket alone added, but all of it added 6/10ths MPG improvement and the turbo is quieter with less under the hood heat. I also wrapped the exhaust for a couple of feet too.

I ran one on my 6NZ, I can honestly say I didn't see any improvement. I got it from Michigan Turbo, still have it, kept it when I traded trucks...wish I could tell you otherwise but I can't.

I have a International 8100, so 50% of the motor is under the cab, gets kinda warm in the summer in Houston. I wonder if this would help with the dog house getting hot.

Can't really say if fuel improved, but I also wrapped the 1st 3ft of exhaust and my cab is not as noisy from engine/exhaust/turbo also a bit cooler under feet..

I plan on getting one with my turbo upgrade and I am also going to wrap my s-pipe to hopefully lower my temps under the hood and quiet it down a bit. I don't expect to see ANY mpg gains tho.

The only way to speed up turbo spooling is to relieve exhaust pressure. Can't understand why you would want to turbo spool a truck in the first place unless you were racing it.
You wind up rpm's to 2000 then take off before the turbo winds down to give yourself a power boost. That's gotta be good for at least a 2 mpg drop in fuel economy. -

I covered the turbos on my CAT with universal turbo wrap kits ($35 each from Summit Racing). I did it mostly for heat management (should prolong life of electrical wires and plastic parts nearby). Also there's many cold-side piping routed in close proximity to the turbine housings on Acert.
The large pipe coming out of air filter housing used to get hot after a hard pull. Now it's cool to touch. But I don't have a clue whether they improved fuel efficiency or not.Attached Files:
