Got a 2005 W900 with acert c15 engine.....dual turbos..mechanic got it taken apart and the top turbo has a broken shaft but not sure if it is rebuildable or not. Bottom one has a little shaft play but I think it can have a new cartridge put in. Getting my uncle in law to fix it, but he was busy today and his mechanic called him and told him both of them were destroyed. hence why I went to look at it myself. Got a guy I am going to carry them to Monday to look at to see if they can be rebuilt rather than spend 5k on 2 new ones. Anyone got any suggestions? Places that may sell these any cheaper? How much shaft play is acceptable? it had no side to side play it was all up and down.

Don't waste your time trying to rebuild them. Just put new or reman ones on. If the fins scrape the housings at all get rid of the turbo and do not try your luck, it will come apart. Also clean out your air intake and install new air filters, and if any oil went through the intake clean out the pipes and ATAC before it runs away.

Did not scrap the housings, all good getting them rebuilt for half of what 2 cost from caterpillar. Cleaned everything out including the atac. Got a question......I remember when I took the turbos to my turbo guy and there was a donut on one of them....for the life of me I can't remember where it was at or where it went. And my parts guy at KW can't find it in his parts diagrams! Any ideas?

I read somewhere about doing away w/the twin turbo set up and spending less money doing so and gaining LOTS of performance/mileage. could have been that pittsburg power and could be worth reading up on.

    Good luck regardless-

Donut should go on the intake side of the upper turbo where the intake goes into the bellow on the pre cooler, clamp will go around it and the bellow.

    cumminsISB Thanks this.

Huh? You do realize you can replace the cartridges way cheaper than buying remans right?

if your talking bout the donut thats made out of abestos it goes on the top turbo on the end of the charge side with a washer the same size where the flex tube bolts on.
