we have a volvo 780 with cummins isx engine. definitely got an air leak (spit valve going off approx. every minute) and the turbo has got a loud whistle on acceleration up hills, and even sometimes when sitting still. when the whistling occurs we also sometimes get a ... kind of bark or cough noise and the truck will hesitate. the code coming up is erratic boost pressure. we already had the air charge cooler replaced, as well as the air line that goes to the waste gate on the turbo. where should we look next? seems like nothign we do cures the air leak ...

Could it be an exhaust leak? That could make it whistle loud. The bark/cough might be water in your fuel. Try some dry gas or some diesel fuel additive to remove the water.

if you are getting the "barking" are you also puffing black smoke when it does it? Could be EGR if that's the case. I drive a 09 ISX 500 13 speed, did the same thing, was also getting low boost pressure codes. EGR and EGR Cooler both needed replaced.

turbo whistling? heh thats familiar, but mine whistles only when Im going down the hills and slightly press on gas pedal. So this time I found a small leak in my muffler, went and bought a PP muffler and I'll see if its goes away..
