I talked with someone I went to CDL School with last night, and he just went thru USX Orientation. They have hired a little over 250 people in a week. Is the turn over rate really this bad?

Many trucking companies are quite happy when their annual turnover rate gets DOWN to 100%, as it usually runs 120-150% per year. In any other business situation the owners would realize what a dismal failure those kind of numbers mean.

Correct,
companies brag about 70% turnover !!!!

That is just amazing that the turn over rate is that high. I would love to see how many people are supposed to show up for Orientation, how many people make it thru day one, day two, and then are hired. And then see how many people are still there, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months later too. I am sure we would never get to see the real number, but it would be interesting to see those numbers.

The end result is that "trucking" companies have learned to profit by the process, making money from the training and turnovers thru fleece deals.
I often wonder what the advertising budgets are for companies to buy ads in all the "free" trucking mags. If only they spent that money on drivers and improving dispatchers! -
I would think, but can be wrong too, if there good planners, managers that knew how to route, plan, look ahead, and had good drivers they could do very well. Both sides can win here.
mtnMoma and ThaWarLock Thank this.
