I sent Prime my application this afternoon. I just got this in an email from the recruiter...
I have no criminal history, no DWI's, clean driving record, etc.
My last job I was at for 1 year. The job prior I was there 20 years. I was an industrial maintenance mechanic both jobs.
The last job I was terminated from because we got a new boss and he was one of those that has to make waves to prove a point. I was low man on the totem pole and I got the axe. Everyone at work was in shock and said that I didnt deserve it.
I was honest on my application and said that I was terminated and for the reason I stated "new boss - personality conflict".
Do you think this is the reason that I was turned down?
Just wondering if I did anything wrong?
Turned down...

Is Prime running a school for new drivers?? if not that may be why. Other wise your being terminated might be it plus whatever the last employer might have told prime when they were called for reference.
-
just keep applying at other places. it the only thing you can do.
-
From what I have seen, they are recruiting students.
Also, the last employer goes through a verification service. You dont actually talk to anyone at the company when doing a reference check.
My wife called it last week just to see if they would divulge any info. They charge something like $5 and all they will tell you is that the did indeed employee did work there, length of time and I think the last date worked. -
Yes, they are taking students into the program. I just went through three weeks ago.
I think if you would have told them that you were terminated for other reasons besides "personality conflict" you would have been fine. Maybe "position was eliminated" or "laid off" would have been acceptable. I don't know for sure though.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Good luck going forward. -
Don't take it too personal. It could be for a number of reasons, and unfortunately you probably will never find out. It could be as simple as not needing any drivers from your area. They may already have a ton of drivers from where you live and don't want to deal with anymore "hometime" being taken there. Or, maybe you just live in an area that would be very difficult to get you home if we have few customers or drop yards in the area. This is also the slow season for trucking, so they are probably scaling back on hiring for right now, which certainly wouldn't help you.
It very well could be your previous job termination too. I do think "personality conflict" may have raised an eyebrow. Prime is very much service oriented. We deal with a lot of customers who will treat you like complete garbage, and you need to be able to keep your cool, stay polite, and basically just take what they throw at you. I'm not saying you wouldn't be able to do that, but seeing a termination and the reasoning being "personality conflict" may have lead the recruiter to believe that you have trouble with interpersonal skills...whether that's actually true or not.
The trucking industry is hurtin' right now, just like every other industry. This is one of the few times in the industries history that there are more applicants than positions available. So, if your recruiter reviewed 250 applications last week and 200 of those were people who were not terminated due to a personality conflict, well, the recruiter may have just set your application aside and went for one of the other 200 applicants.
I don't mean to sound negative or hit you while you're down, just providing some insight. My insight might be completely off base, but those were just a few things that came to my mind.
There are still pleanty of jobs available in the trucking industry. Last year about this time I had 4 pre-hires. All of them fell through for one reason or another. So I definately know what you're feeling X 4. Keep applying. If you have a clean driving record, clean criminal history, and solid work history besides your last job, I'm pretty confident somebody will take you.DirtySideDown Thanks this. -
I had the same thing happen to me at some of the companies that I applied to. Do not let it get you down. Keep putting in applications to companies. You will get on with one of them.
It may not be your first choice or even your second. But you have to play the cards that you are dealt and go with it.
Failure is not an option. Keep pushing on and you will be successful!
God Bless!JustSonny Thanks this. -
I'm leaning towards it being the "termination" and not the "personality conflict".
Three years ago, Dh quit a job he had been working at for over 5 years, due to "irreconcilable differences" he had with a new boss that recently came aboard. The new boss believed in the, "It's my way or the highway" philosophy and was also a micromanager.
Dh disclosed this to Prime and was still approved.Last edited: Jan 22, 2010

Trucker Mike... No harm done!
I emailed the recruiter and asked where I was lacking in the qualifications. He replied back that it was because of the termination.
I am debating on replying back to him and asking if they consider circumstances.
It just makes me mad that I busted my butt for this guy and he still terminated me for no reason other than he doesnt like me and wanted to prove a point. Now he possibly cost me a job.
Anyway, I guess that I'm on to the next one which I think will be Millis then Stevens... From there I have no clue...
If y'all are aware of some good companies that have company paid training, I would appreciate the input. The ex employer has made it very hard on me financially and I dont have the money to attend the school of my choice and from what I have seen I dont qualify for any aid programs. -
Just emailed a recruiter with KLLM. We have exchanged emails a few times and he seems to be a real nice guy. Anyway, I told him the story and he said that it was their policy as well. No terminations...
Wonder if I'm screwed? I want to be honest with these folks but it looks like it's gonna cost me a good job!
