After my inframe, I was told to run it hard. I was maxed out on my loads right after the work was done & I climbed the hills with everything she had. never idled. was told if you go easy you will have a oil burner. rings seat better working the engine. so far 130,000 & all is well.

Maybe I'm missing a huge point here. Sure the truck will run fast, nice to have that if you really need to get into it on a critical load. But, running easy ( 60 to 65) will improve the mileage you get.

I think you have to ask yourself this. How much more MONEY am I making at the end of the day running the thing fast verses how much do I save if slow down a bit.

    I believe you'd be surprised.

I HIGHLY reccommend Inland Power Group in Gary, IN. Great guys that do very good work. They are a DETROIT shop and stand behind what they do and will fight tooth and nail for warranty work.

I bought a 99 FLD that was an ex-Penske truck with a 430hp S-60. After 750 miles a rod decided to exit the block. I took it to them and since the truck had a Low Nox rebuild done at the Freightliner dealer the year prior they fought with Detroit and the FTl dealer and got me a brand new crate motor for $0 out of my pocket!!! Not too shabby!!

If DD is doing the warranty work on it then it should be able to be done at any DD shop. How about take it to a different one since it could be an error the mechanic made.......

Thanks to all who replied. Specs. you all know the motor, trans. 13sp, 3.58 rears,
    22.5 lp.

The super overhaul, they cut the block, counter boar, new bearings, pistons, rings, valves, liners, and more. I don't have the paper work yet to be more specific.

I have been a customer of this dealer for over 11 years. They have always done a terrific job with my old truck, always stood by their word and it was just that, their word. Nothing in writting. I've never had to. They rebuilt my '94 without a hitch.

It was not my decision to tow the truck to Fremont, it was the dealer. I was appx 30 miles from Truck City of Gary and they knew about it. I was very suprised about Fremont sending their wrecker to Chicago. Thats over 160 miles.

As far as my speed, I did do a round Cleveland to Chicago and back at 66 mph on the cruise with 38,000 out and 43,000 back. I averaged 5.5 that round. An improvement of .02 mpg. I followed the instructions of the service manager to a "T" on every account.

I have never baught a truck with a warranty, so covering my butt was my main concern.

This truck is so different from the 94, and I had never drover anything newer than a 97 pete. with a c15 in it. On occasion I drove a 2000 Mack w/ a mack motor.

Learning to shift on the low end of the rpms took some time.

Just got off the phone with the dealer, the Detroit rep is there. I will keep you posted. BTW the Dealer is Stoops, Fremont, In.

    Thanks again everyone.

Good for you, way cool. I too was told " Run the hell out of it". I just ran it the same as I always do. I did have a 56,700 lb load, ran normal. Oil levels were good. Except when it took a crap, all the coolant went into the motor.

I tried 66mph .02/ gal improvement. Also, running mt did not help. I've had to HD home from the dealer, 220 miles.

No idea what Lo Nox means, it just had a sticker put on the valve cover and they kept referring to it at Inland LOL.....

As for their location in Gary, you take I-65 north from 94 to the 1st exit which is 15th Ave. and go west to the frontage road (next to Falcon) and they are near the end on the right.

Well, The Detroit Rep decided NOT to use the old block. So I''m getting a "long block". Never heard that term before. I asked the difference between a long and a short block, i was told " the block comes already assembled with the head". I hope that means a new motor, minus the turbo, manifold, ect. Anyone know what exactly comes with a "long block" ? Getting detailed info from the dealer is like pulling teeth from a lion. Thanks in advance for any info...
