i bought a 19" tv with built in dvd, i also bought a 400 watt power inverter for the truck. the dvd player on the tv worked well for a while but now is crap. so i,m going to have to get a separate dvd player , my question then is how much wattage do i need to run both, and can anyone suggest a good compact dvd player. keep in mind that i copy my dvds at home using dvdfab software and take only dvdrw's on the road with me.
    thanx for the advice.:biggrin_25511:

I ran an 800 watt inverter and had a cheap $29 magnavox dvd player. get them at walmart...that way when it takes a dive you aren't out lots of cash

Check the back of the TV....it will list the watts....or an amp rating...if it is amps, multiply it by 120 for the watts needed to run it.
Add the two items together (or however many items you want)...and you know what the Inverter needs to be. Electronics do not require any extra for starting...but anything with a motor in it bigger than a VCR or DVD player might need 50-200% more watts to start!! Many LCD TV's have VERY low power requirements....especially the LED back-lit ones!! The LED back-lit ones should also tolerate the vibration better in a truck, since there is no Bulb to physically break!!
One tip..protect the screen...DO NOT LAY IT DOWN SCREEN SIDE DOWN, and maybe toss a piece of plastic on the front to protect it when in motion...Velcro might keep it in place!!
Since most electronic convert the AC to DC internally, nothing special is needed in the inverter for MOST items....clocks on many items may not work...and microwaves tend to be picky with inverter power...the old non-electronic ones tend to work best!! Or you could spend big $$ for a "true sign-Wave" inverter, but it is not worth the extra $$ since 99% of the stuff you will run id fine with the typical Modified sign-wave type inverter!!

Put your movies or whatever you watch on your laptop and plug it into your tv, mine plays in HD and works great.
