I am wanting to run a TV and charge my laptop on an inverter. Is it possible to accomplish this on one of those plug in the 12v types? The TV is small. A 19" and the laptop is a standard dell.
Thanks,
Dave

You have to know the combined wattage, then to know not the maximum wattage (surge), but the run wattage of the inverter. The inverter might say 1500 watt yet reality it only cranks out 1100 watts. The laptop would be better off with a 12 volt adapter frome some one like Radio Shack. I bought one for my HP and it was only $15 IIRC.

A 19" TV is going to use about max 160 watts so yes a plugin inverter should work, together with charging your laptop. In my experience though, the power from the inverter seemed to charge the laptop batteries a lot slower, than using the power at home. But YMMV.
Good luck -
I used a 12v for my lap top, portable dvd player and cell phone worked fine but my hd tv it blew a fuse and it was a small tv.

Too dang noisy
They have TVs that plug into the socket if that's all you want.
The box on my charging cable got extremely hot using a DC to ac box. Better to just get the big one.
Like that guy said fuses will blow if you use the outlet. -
It will work ok, until you shut the Truck off.
If you're going to go work for a company, be careful hard wiring inverters. Most don't want you doing it.lovesthedrive Thanks this.
