I saw a Werner guy with his dish mounted on the mirror bracket on the passenger side of his truck. He also had an APU to power it. I just watch DVD's with my cheap little player or laptop.. I have been TV free for about 1.5 years now, it's great!

I have directtv at the house, with two receivers and from what I have been told, I can just bring one receiver out on the road or purchase another for $5 more a month. From what I read, you need an 18" dish and you can mount it on a pole or on your mirror. I have yet to buy the dish but when I do I will post how it works.
You can only watch the same movie so many times in a year and they cost money. I already have cable at home, all I have to do is bring it out on the road with me, plus buy a dish.

I have Slingbox, and I must say its great, but if you dont have a good connection of broadband both ways, its going to be very choppy. By both ways I mean, at your house you have to have a good broadband connection then, a better connection on the road, assuming you have wireless internet via a phone company? I wouldnt go this way, since its not as fast as connecting to a wifi lan. Instead, I would buy a sattelite that goes on your truck from your dish company and watch it that way.

I recommend slingbox for a laptop at your house using your houses wifi router. So you could watch tv in your bed!

If you don't mind watching past episodes try Hulu.. its free and has a ton of movies and shows ...just nothing live. I watch it on my laptop. I like "Life" and watch episodes a few weeks after they aired live !! Also very limited commercials so a 1 hour lasts about 45 minutes !!

You can use either Dish, Direct or FTA (free to air) which has no monthly payments. Dish and direct charge $5/ month for an additional unit but you can take one from home without additionaal charges, if you already have their service. If Not then look into getting a FTA from ebay. I have used the dish 500/dual lnb on all three with great success. The best way I have seen and done is to get a 3-5 gallon plastic plant bucket and a chainlink fence post and a bag of quickcrete. You will also need a good compass. To set it up upon stops set out your pole mount and put the dish on it. Find out the zip code your in and punch it into the installation section of the set-up, this will give you the info you need to find the satellite. Turn the volume up on the set so you can hear the tone. Turn the dish in the correct compass heading then set the Azmuth(elevation) based on what the set-up gives you. Listen to the tone to fine tune the dish to the best reception. Sounds like a PITA but after a time or two you be able to do it quite quickly. The problem with the telescopic mount on the truck is that you would need a tall ladder to fine tune the dish. There is also an automatic sat tracker but its kinda pricey. It is whats used on ships to dial in the sat. They run $1500 and up.

you cant get locals because locals are on sat. 110
you need a dish 500 (the one that you can pivot aswell as turn left/right/up/down) and a dual LNB (the lnb with 2 eyes)

dish transmits all local channels on satalite 110 aswell as some foreghn and HD channels.
once you get the proper equipment you will be able to get locals just make sure you go through the check switch and instilation/setup menues so you're receaver is properly configured for the dual LNB.

additionaly you should check you're receaver to ensure it is set up for 2 satalite inputs (if its less than 4 years old this shouldent be a problem) and you'll need the satalite signal spliter that should have come with the receaver (it splits the 2 satalite signals from the 1 coaxe line running from youre dish)

    hope this info helps

easiest way to set up a mobile dish is on a "satalite dish tripod" there colapsable and heavy duty enough to hold the dish's weight w/o messing with a bucket of concreete and a fence post. you can get a "bird dog" for $500 and program it for finding any satalite position (it is the most accurate for best reception) but if you dont wana blow the $500 you could try looking for a used one on ebay or there are other cheaper less acurate satalite signal finders on the market. you can find all of em on ebay.

i spent some time installing dish network so i know from experiance the bird dog is worth the $500 easy to use and verry acurate.. more acurate than any satalite receaver's internal signal meter.

    7mouths2feed Thanks this.
