I got my HazMat (it cost me about $100 to get fingerprinted for this) so I could haul tankers with fuel or fertilizer. I am not going to get my TWIC (this costs about another $100) card because I do not plan on hauling containers into or out of ports, or intermodal yards in places like Chicago (Great Lakes ports) or coastal ports.

There are some rail-yard intermodal yards, as I saw one in western Tennessee, so there may be others in the country as well.

If I was you, I would wait on the TWIC card, unless you know for sure you will be doing hauling of containers into intermodal yards. If you should have to go into an intermodal yard, I understand you can get an escort for $25 while you are there.

If you know you will be doing intermodal hauling, then yes, I would think it would be to your advantage to get the TWIC card.

Alot of tropical fruit and vegies is hauled in the ports too. You'll need a TWIC card there. You have plenty of time. Your company will pay for an escort in the meantime.

I have a TWIC card... And I don't pull containers in & out of ports. I actually pull regular freight in & out of ports. Ports also have docks for dry vans to haul freight in. Then they unload the truck & transfer the freight to a container or export.

Military bases are also going the TWIC card route.

the cost is $132.50 unless you have had the hazmat background check... Then it is around $100 or so.

I'd say go get your TWIC. It may make you more desireable to companies when they consider you. Unless you want to be a pumkin head.

Pay me $150-$300 to yank their trailer in to get loaded or unloaded.... Price is determined on the time used!
