Nothing has changed then. I pulled 20 hours just waiting for the norfolk ship to return to Baltimore in a day cab container truck. The kicker was I had to commute in my car each working day about a hour plus. Something I did not do, but slept across the hammock a time or two a few hours.

Things improved when I moved on to a reefer outfit with a sleeper on the truck, but at the same time just exchanged one problem of being awake too long to another problem of waiting for a grocery dock all day.

That was a long time ago. Im not surprised it still happens.

As far as the overtime, it happens. But because truckers are exempted Federally etc we don't get a penny for it. You can work a life time of overtime and nothing of it will matter.

When "journalism" discusses an area or topic you have deep knowledge about, that's when you see how deficient and slap-dash journalism really is. Keep this in mind when you read about topics you don't have deep knowledge about.

And best part will be when the lowlife truckers get replaced as well. What goes around, comes around. The ships will be automated with no crews and so will the trucks. Talking about who else is going to replaced by a "robot and/or computer"? Better look in the mirror.

I wonder sometimes if humanity will be replaced by self replicating machinery. We are already there in so many ways.

BTW before anybody gets bent outta shape by my comment of "lowlife truckers" I was simply pointing out the use of the term against longshoremen or any other worker can be equally applied to truckers as well.
I don't view any worker who does an honest days work to be a "lowlife" whether they are digging ditches, flipping burgers, holding a steering wheel or busting their rear-end in any of the other countless thankless jobs out there.

If every job is replaced by robotics I'm all for it.
If nobody is working who's going to be buying anyone's goods?
Just pay me to ride my motorcycle, fish, and drink beer?
