    Hello folks,

I'm sitting on 2 offers - one from Crete Carrier the other from USX. I know from reading many posts that CCC has the better rep among experienced drivers. None the less I am still a bit torn between the two. Here is the breakdown for the recent "graduate":

    Training pay:
    USX $300/wk
    CCC $500/wk

    After training:
    CCC 34 cents/mi
USX the goofy sliding pay scale (longer runs = less cpm)

    Length of training:
    CCC 8 weeks
    USX 150 hrs

Its really the length of the training period thats got me thinking. Otherwise its a no-brainer. 8-weeks? seems a bit much but perhaps I'm mistaken. Also the training program at USX dictates the trainer be in the jump-seat (supposedly) whenever the student is driving. CCC is the basic "co-driver" training setup. I appreciate any opinions/advice forthcoming. Thanks.

Ah I almost forgot. USX has the auto-shift, CCC from what I gather straight 10.

I would say Crete would be the better choice.

USX, faster trucks, more miles possible on 70.

Crete is the better Choice. For a number of reasons.

Agreed. There are more complaints about USX here than there are about Crete.

I agree, crete is a much better choice,8 weeks, that's all the more training you will have. I look at it this way,my opinion is it should be 12 weeks of reality training ,on the job, with logs, maps, shippers and consignees, the more you can learn or be shown the easier it is for you to perform all of your duties without big problems and mistakes, the little mistakes are nothing, the bigger ones can be the end of a great career,to say the least. Let us know how you are doing.

Id go with Crete as well. If someone doesnt feel comfortable after 8 weeks, maybe they should rethink their profession.

    Go with Crete !!!

You'll be better off in the long run...much better off. $300 a week is starvation mode for a truck driver with bills. $500, ain't a bad start.

I've never worked for them. But, I have friends who do. And, have spoke with several of their drivers on the road. Crete is more "driver" friendly of the 2 by far. Based on my conversations.

You'll eventually get an autoshift. The industry is moving that way.

Peace of mind is priceless too. Crete offers so many differant driver options, it is difficult to say they are a bad company.

I did recently have a conversation with a CCC driver that might interest you. He was questioning the company I worked for, and it's benefits, pay, etc. I plainly asked why he was seeking other job information, since I had heard so many good things about them. Too which he replied, he was just asking, he wasn't looking for a job. He just wanted to know....in case he did need to look in the future. He was happy at Crete.

I would also vote for Crete, the difference in training could be the difference between night and day out on the road. In the long run you would probably be better off.
