depends. they may work you to death, and keep you far from home, and miss your 2 weeks deadline.

some companies order you to clean out your truck, NOW!

some companies work you normally, or very little.

once an employee had announced he (or she) is leaving, the employer could care less, (in some instances) and would rather cut you loose on the spot, as you have no more desire to work for them.

back up your qualccom with another at least by the next day, make sure you get a confirmation message back.

I know peoplenet has a way to email your logs. Guessing that QC does too. Before you give notice, email your logs to yourself. Then do it daily until you get out of their truck. That way, if you go to work for someone else right away, you have your last 8 days.

    Dye Guardian Thanks this.

Two week notice means nothing in this industry. You would be better off requesting hometime and then give them a notice after you get home you're quitting and clean your trk out.Dispatch will find you a load back to the terminal then you're done after you turn in key and whatever tools was issued to you.

Something to remember about this industry is that you are carrying product that could potentially be stolen or destroyed or otherwise mistreated. Once you state that you no longer wish to work for a company you become a possible liability and it is really in the best interest of the company to get you out of the truck ASAP in order to limit their your opportunity to do something they may have to pay for on a whim. A lot of people quit when either pissed or pushed past their limits and the companies know this so they want you down the road before you act out.

No not everyone is like this but they don't know who might or might not destroy something on purpose to get back at them and treat everyone like they might. That's why they might send you home even if you try to give notice. personally I don't even bother, when it is time to go it is time to go, here is your truck, bye.

Thank your for the info, that certainly makes sense.

I was hoping to get some insight in how Averitt specifically handles it, though

Your safest route is to quit on home time, clean out the truck, and drop off at terminal. No notice necessary. It's OTR trucking, your just meat in a seat. Now if you were on a dedicated account and you see your immediate leave impacting others, then give them time to find a replacement.

My last office job I trained my replacement, then gave two weeks notice and submitted a referral to management for my replacement. They weren't too happy, but they said they'd take me back in a heartbeat at the time.
