i have got a truck that is a 5 speed which each gear can be split in to high and low. I keep getting conflicting answers on what type of gear box it is (non-synchro, synchro etc). My partner went for his licence yesterday and he explained what type of gear box it is and they told him to go in an automatic truck which will cover in straight manual with a splitter.
Type of Gearbox

Sounds like a two speed rear axle maybe? Is it an old single axle? I drove an old IH roll off with 5 speed spicer synchronized transmission with two speed axle. I only ever split 5th in it.

I think the axle splitter was a round red plastic up/down push pull switch on side of shifter. It had an 8 ball shifter knob lol
