worked for Tyson Foods for 10 years, loved it but i dont miss them rotten plants, they are not phasing out their own fleet, that has been the rumors for years, KLLM got the dedicated contract, they are only pulling about 5% of Tysons freight. They only have 150 trucks on it. My years at Tyson were my best, I left when I bought my own truck.
-
That's the first I've heard of reefer trailers being "gassed" except maybe to fumigate them.
-
A few Tyson plants do use a oxygen-depleting gas after they finish loading as a preservative. Tyson has been doing it for a while now, but the company that I am leased to forwarded us a notice that Tyson sent out after they had a driver (not sure who the driver worked for) pass out in a trailer while installing load locks.
-
That makes sense. I dont usually have to install load locks, but the dispatch stated to do so. Most loads are either sealed or have locks in place. It amazes me that other drivers argue over my posting, just a heads up since I reported it to the powers that be at Tyson and no one cared. I'll know better next time!

Your a trucker for all of 2 years now? You have alot to learn. I am female, 5'7 and 130 lbs. No, not out of shape. Have worked for Tyson 4 years, happy with my job, pay etc. It was a simple warning

I hope to eventually learn how to drive a truck, to eventually be able to go SOLO over the road, OTR. I am in the process of getting my motor vehicle record, (MVR), cleaned up. I currently have 6 years at my current job as a retail clerk, hoping NOT to get laid off or terminated in the next 4 years, right about the time my MVR should be much better cleaned up. I would also have a 10 year work history.
If I do learn to drive a truck, Tyson Foods, out of Springdale Arkansas would be an excellent company to try to go to work for. From what I understand, Tyson Foods has some of the best paid and best treated truck drivers in all of the United States of America.
I will be 57 years old on October 1st. 2013. I have never married, never had any children. Sadly and unfortunately, both of my parents are deceased. I currently live in the Midwest. I have 2 younger sisters who live on the east coast, with their families, approximately 1500 miles away. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment, therefore , do NOT have to worry about a house or any type of property maintenance.
Therefore, it would NOT be a problem for me to be over the road, (OTR), for extended periods of time. I just need to be able to both comply with Department of Transportation, (D.O.T.), standards, along with individual trucking company standards. Of course, the 1st. thing to do would be to get the class "A" commercial drivers license, (C.D.L.).
God bless you and your family! God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!Last edited: Jun 20, 2013

they use co2 on some loads, liked to fell out trailer in glen alln,va plant
-
Yes some of our plants use CO2 and dry ice. Yes it will knock you on your ### if you take a big whiff of it. I don't care what it is, I personally sample the air before I jump up in a trailer. Its a common sense type deal to me just like standing out of the way when opening the doors should be. If its a gassed load and you cant hold your breath long enough to set a load lock, maybe you need to practice. Yes, working here is great. es our recruiters are honest, or at least they used to be. Ive heard them tell many people that there will be days and weeks that will just flat suck. Or that it is the best and worst place you will ever work. I REALLY doubt Tyson Private Fleet is going away any time soon, if ever. Tyson Foods actually started as a Trucking type deal by taking Arkansas chickens and trucking them up to Chicago. It is rumored that it was part of old man Tyson's will that the trucks have to stay in order for tyson to exist. I knew Don Tyson, and its the sort of thing he woulda done. Drivers that were here back in the day when the DOT cracked down on us can attest to that. Don came down and micro managed the transportation division for about a year until that mess was over. I really don't see how he could have actually done so to a public corporation, but its a pretty nifty rumor anyway.
