I drive this road every week. Up it to Wenatchee WA, back down it to California. Anyone who has drove this road in the winter knows how bad it can get with the snow and black ice. It still just blows my mind how fast people drove this road on 1ft of snow pack. Every couple of miles you see a wreak, or a hole in the snow bank where a wreak had happen. This should be your first clue to slow down.
The locals are the worst drivers I've seen. Almost every car in the area between Bend and Klamath Falls is wreaked up somehow. I had a guy blow by me last weekend about 12:00am in a Subaru. He was flying on solid snowpack about 65 mph. He gets in front of me, lost comtrol, spins a 360, hit the snow bank, and keeps rolling like it was the thing to do. Never even stopped to check his car.
Call me stupid, but where Iam from, you try not to wreak your $30,000 ride. When will people learn to slow down in the snow.

I was on the 97 couple weeks ago from weed up into washington. I was on 150 miles of hard pack snow and ice as the route went through oregon. I was doing 35 mph tops and all these doubles are passing me doing like 50. One guy didn't make it the day before cause he was rolled over in the ditch. I would hate to have to drive that route all the time, must be alot of wrecks even in the summer.

Its beautiful in the summer. I was just there on the 1st the snow pack is almost gone exceptfor a few miles before chemult there is like a ton of ice pot holes its a rough ride but most of it is gone. Caught some freezing fog just before Biggs junction it was ugly. Overall it was allright.

I ran that country for years! Haven't lately tho...395-39-139-K-falls-140 or 58 over to I-5...I'd rather run that route in the winter than I-5 from Redding over the hill to Medford any day! Folks up there know how to drive in the winter,,,and truckers up there typically ain't rookies. JMHO

Been going on since the beginning of time. I always say, "let 'em wreck, just don't run into me". I WILL get there, my way, maybe a bit late, but at least there.

Hahahahah........Welcome to my world. 3 decades of driving 97 & all the passes in 8-9 axle trucks. Summer or Winter Goverment Camp has to be the worst haul. Triple trailers on a Friday afternoon before a 3 day holiday towards Portland now that's entertainment. Some of my favorite boneheads are driving in a Snowstorm with no headlights on. OR driving down the middle of a 4 lane road because the snowpack has covered the lane dividers. Then you have the drivers that are just dangerous for whatever reason you would like to pick.
