Do any body work for either of these companies? If so could you give a lil info on them far as new student drivers go.. I have pre hire letters for both but I would like to know which one is better.. I'm just looking to get that first year under my belt with a good company OTR that's not going to screw me over.. Not worried about home time I will stay out as long as I can but I would like to get with a company paying decent miles! Any advice would be appreciated!

You need to look at the threads for both of these companies, and there are many. Do the research and make an educated decision. From what I have seen in the two years I have been on the forum, neither of them seem to be great places to work. That being said, if you were to start with either of them, stay there 6 to 9 months, get the training and move to a better company.

    Good luck.

well do ya wanna run reefer or dry van? decide that and you've made your choice. btw, have you applied to any other places? just curious, for some reason i've been hearing a pretty good amount of good stuff @ Millis. that said.. as soon as you find a good starter company that doesn't screw you over please come back and let us know who that is. heck finding a good non starter company that doesn't occasionally screw ya over is tough enough.

    best of luck

Will reefer make more money than dry van? Silly question but I am new to this whole thing!! I'm guessing us xpress runs the dry vans!

TransAm is a good enough place to get your feet wet. They pay better than some of the other megas right out of school. But we run autos which is a deal breaker for some.

I would have picked maverick and Melton as the top choices from that list, after a year and a half of reading these forums. I don't know anything about McElroy. I never worked for any of those companies, but those two (mav/melton) seem to be associated with the more positive posts.

Trans Am is in Olathe, KS. The company has its ups and downs as far as the drivers I have talked to. Fort Scott Community College Truck driving school use to really like them. I went to FSCC and heard all about them. I looked into their lease purchase plan and turned around and ran the other way. That was back in 2005 so my information on that is out dated. They do drive Auto Shift, which I have never done, but I do not think that should be any big deal. Shifting is over rated. Most of the driving you will do is with the cruise control on.

I do know that you will be hauling a lot of beef. So if the world comes to an end, you will have something to chew on at least.
