Never had a problem with them. Fill out the correct stuff and turn in right after done. Never had to send in anything from ELD.

I never took low paying loads to get somewhere else .
Wasn’t worth the time and hassle .

I just drove and hustled to the next good paying load .

Company my neighbor works for NEVER uses brokers .
They have good paying direct freight outbound and they come back empty and grab another good paying outbound load .

they have brokers constantly calling and begging them to take loads but they got burned by some sleazy brokers (is there any other kind ?) a few years back and they won’t ever use brokers again .

they recently had a truck come back empty 1800 miles because they won’t use brokers .
It’s just not worth the hassle

I did the same thing when I lived in Biloxi .
They had endless loads of bananas leaving Biloxi outbound that paid good .

I never bothered with dicking around with return loads , it just wasn’t worth the time and hassle when another great paying load of bananas was waiting back home in Biloxi .

some broker would try to get me to take a load that would require me to drive two or three hours away from my delivery , and spend two or three or more hours getting loaded then the delivery was always a couple hours away from Biloxi and took three or four hours to get unloaded .
All for a return load that paid exactly half of what the bananas paid .

    Me: “I get $X dollars a mile or I ain’t hauling it “

Broker : “but it will pay for your fuel “

    Me “ did you not hear what I just said ?, I get $x a mile or I ain’t hauling it “

At some point just deadheading back does become very wasteful. Instead of them being hardheaded about it perhaps maybe a better way would be to leverage the brokers calling and needing their trucks? I mean it sounds great on the internet, standing your ground, not hauling cheap, whatever... hey, I've done a bunch of deadheads myself 600, 700, or more miles like it wasn't nothing. It wasn't. But when you look at it realistically that's a waste.

i'm not saying you've GOT to cover those miles but ####, if somebody is begging you for trucks, you're follish not to cover as many as you can.. they're missing some opportunity there. And I dont GAF how well your outbound is or what ever, that's a lot of miles to waste and never ever consider covering for some money just because of hardheadedness. But to be fair I don't run my truck anymore. I walked away from the business. Doesnt mean I can't see foolishness and call it what it is when I see it. And that's foolishness. But hey, some people have really deep pockets and can do that. Most people running your typical business can't be like that though.

    1000 miles at $3 a mile = $3000
Deadhead 500 miles for another load = $2 a mile
Pretty soon you become the bottom feeder that you hate.
I always pulled loads out of Florida.....I think the worst paying was around .85. But, it got me gas and set me to a more favorable freight environment. You can parse it out anyway you like, but usually at the end of the day it amounted to 'pride'.
You can't pay the bills with pride.

You're absolutely correct. They owe me for 2 tonus that they won't pay. Trying to resolve it is an endless loop of trying to communicate with people who speak Spanish and only send emails to each other. They've really gone down hill.
