These are questions that I can't find good answers to.
1: I haul oversize, which means that when I am under an oversize load, I am exempt from the 30 minute break requirement. But when I'm empty or hauling a non permit load, I have to comply with the 30 minute break requirement. Are there ELDs that allow me to simply turn the 30 minute break violation notice off and on without having to reprogram the device every time?

2: If using the AOBRD 2 year exception, how do I email my logs to a DOT inspector if I am outside an area with cell coverage?

3: If using an app based device that runs on my smartphone, how do I remain compliant with GPS tracking when cell phones use cell tower based GPS telemetry and I have no cell signal?

4: As a one man one truck operation, I am not required to fill out or submit a DVR inspection report, although I am still required to do a daily inspection. Can I still log or flag a daily inspection on my log without having to fill out an inspection report or get nagged by the ELD for not doing so?

    1. Ignore the notification when pulling permitted loads.
    2. Current aobr rules apply. I.e. no need to send to leo, but must have the usage card available for leo inspection.
    3. Get a device that has gps reciever built in. Almost every smart phone does. The cell tower based is used only for battery life savings.
    4. Current rules apply. No paperwork is required if nothing is wrong.

    # 2 FMCSA’s guidance also confirms that the regulations don’t require AOBRDs to provide a hardcopy printouts for an enforcement official. “As long as the information made available for display on the AOBRD meets the requirements of § 395.15(i)(5), the driver and motor carrier are not required to provide additional RODS documentation to an enforcement official at the roadside,” FMCSA said. “However, an enforcement official may request that additional information be provided by email, fax, or similar means within 48 hours for follow-up after the conclusion of the roadside inspection.”

    Mandatory Items are:

    • ELD User’s Manual
    • Instruction sheet for transferring HOS records to safety officials
    • Instruction sheet on reporting ELD malfunctions & recordkeeping procedures during ELD malfunctions
    • A supply of paper tracking forms (grid graphs) for at least 8 days, in case of ELD malfunction
