I have a question which might have been answered here a million times.
I use my truck to get me back to the terminal on Mondays, and to get me home on Friday's. a total 84 miles round trip. Do I need to log this? From my understanding I do not have to log this for I am using my Truck as personal conveyance! The company says that I must log it, that there IS no such stipulation in the rules! I have been under this assumption for a very long time.
2nd- Time allowance on your log book.
These facts are true. I unloaded last Thurs. in Portland OR. # 9:45 am. My appt. was # 7am I arrived @6am. Now I have used 3.75 hrs on my 14. I went to Troutdale OR. to wait for next Dispatch. Was not Dispatched until 12:45pm. all the way down to Glendale OR, a 3.5 hr drive , 45 mins north of Medford OR. What I forgot to state was my day started # 4am.
Got to shipper # 4:45 pm took him 45mins. to load me.
Now its 5:30, if you have been following along I have 30 mins. left on my 14 and there is no place for me to shut down and take my 10.
My question is- Am I allowed a certain amount of time to find a safe place to park? Or should I have just shut it down as soon as I was loadeed? Mind you now, there is nothing suitable about Glendale OR If your a driver looking to do your 10!
Is there some rule stating I am allowed to find a safe haven to take my Break

Please don't take my word for this, but, as I understand the rules, here is my answer to your questions.
If you are NOT under dispatch, and bobtailing, you may use the tractor as a personal convayance for a "reasonable" distance. Ie, yes you may bobtail home on line 1, IF you are not under dispatch nor driving the tractor somewhere to get work done to it. You may bobtail back to the terminal ONLY if you are not under dispatch to do so. In other words, if you are bobtailing from home to the terminal to pick up an assigned load, you are under dispatch and must be on line 3.
As for the second question, real simple, there is NO exception to the 14 hour rule. Period.
Again, I'm no expert on the bizarre rules, I just try to follow them as best I canSo, hopefully, someome more knowledeable will chime in here soon.

We have it in another thread. I found in FMCSA website that you don't have to log personal use of the truck. This even includes the trailer if it's not interstate commerce. Like moving your own household furniture or something not for hire.
Only way you can break your 11 is for bad weather or unexpected delays like traffic jams. You can extend 2 hours and I would explain in remarks. But it has to be within your 14. You are expected to plan your trips including where you shutdown. But we know that doesn't always happen. If you are desperate you can always find an industrial park side street or sneak behind a shopping center. You can never go outside your 14.
In a strange circumstance you can use split sleeper if you had an 8 hr break. Say you drove 6 hours and it took 8hrs to get unloaded which I log in the sleeper (or unload+break). Then you can drive 5 hrs (add to last on duty not to exceed 11). Then you have to take a 2 hr break, followed by up to 6 hrs driving. To cancel split sleeper, you need a 10 hour break.
If your employer tells you different. You have to follow them or convince them otherwise.
