Trucking was more profitable before deregulation. There is no debate on that.

Your negotiation skills mean NOTHING when Mr. Broker tells you he moves these loads all the time at a fuel money rate and the rate is what it is because if you don't take it the next caller will.

There are tons of dispatchers sitting at their computer desks all day long watching loadboards.
If rates are transparent, you will never be able to compete against them. They will gobble all the good loads with their super fast gigabit internet and quick fingers, while you are trying to do bidding on your cellphone.

Tons of brokers already utilize this bidding model. Looks like it works great for them. JB Hunt is doing especially great

See, transparency is not about broker disclosing and preventing their profits.
It is about satisfying my curiosity. Which may influence my decision making to my benefit.
As a carrier, I've nothing to disclose to brokers to be adequate as shipper to broker rate.

If you can create a new truck driver in 3 weeks or a new trucking company in 90 days there will never be any market power for drivers or trucking companies. The only way for freight rates to go up and stay up is for a massive number of trucks and drivers to leave the industry. In every other big industry the 10-20 biggest players control 75-95% of the activity. In trucking, you might have to take the top 100 companies to see 60% of the industry activity. Even the big players are small in comparison to the industry.

It is still good to know what the shipper pays and if the load is not double brokered , which transparency would reveal.
I don't knowingly book double brokered loads even if they pay $1000 per mile.

Regulating operating authority and regulations in the sense I was speaking are two different things. If operating authority was still regulated then I’d venture that most that call for strikes or go to DC and protest wouldn’t have even been granted authority in the first place.

South Dakota intrastate was still regulated up into the mid-90’s or so. After my dad passed away my mom got just under $15k for our intrastate permit. Then once it was deregulated everyone could do what they wanted and now if you’re not pulling 13 axle doubles you can’t run local and haul grain.

This proves that transparency is harmless. Then why not have it if available?

It absolutely is disclosing their profits. Well maybe not their true profit because you won’t know their overhead. But they will be disclosing to you what they’re getting paid versus what you’re getting paid.
