My truck is dirty, haven't shaved in weeks, usually get asked if i have long britches, hard hat, flashy gloves, etc.

But i'm a badazz. People love my attitude. I get 20 calls a day from TQL and Landstar.

No pedigree, he'll, my dogs have better papers than i do. Also had no plan.

All good though, I'll be alright.

Edit: I forgot humility, I'm a very humble person, IMO. Don't care what everyone else thinks

I’m sorry if my post came off that way it wasn’t meant to. Maybe everyone on here knows these things but the guys strapping next to me don’t. And I don’t have access to freight that anyone else here wouldn’t have.

When I first started up, my wife did carrier packs with a large amount of brokerages. 30 days into the authority, my phone started going bananas! Phone calls have died off this summer to one maybe 5 a week mostly have moved over to emails. Not many boundaries other than experience and insurance rates for new authorities.

I don't buy the idea that someone's service is that excellent and others service sucks to the point of getting a special treatment status.
Every stupid person knows that being on time and taking care of a hauled product and perhaps not pissing on a tire while you're at a customer's site is important.

Nobody has said yet if they would also sit on a load for an extra day for the same amount of money or if they’d drop it and go find something else. So I’m assuming they glossed over that part of his story, and how his relationship with that broker began.

    And, frankly, it's fairly normal.
How many High 5's have you ever gotten for being on time and the freight not ruined?
Yeah. The answer would be none.

    That's ok.
I have listened to Kevin Rutherford for years too. I used to. I know what relationships are and how important customer service is.
It is important to stress that getting relationships or connections goes way beyond 'on the job' appearance and being on time statistics.
It does not start at the owner-operator level. I can even see how a guy without CDL can secure more customers than a person who was an owner operator for 30 years. But insinuating that someone wins only because his equipment and straps are cleaner and he shows up on time and acts properly on the customer site may raise an eyebrow.

Next time you deliver a load look at your competition. Some are not even fully dressed for work, can speak the language, or deliver a load without a claim. When they get a claim, always the same look. Bewildered, lost in the sauce, no plan. I have been approached often by this guys with questions on what to do next. Why me? Why not the other 7 trucks? Maybe because I have the sharpest equipment, I am dressed with boots, collar shirt, portfolio in one hand and temperature gun in other. I do not show my problems on my face. I mean business, my customers, brokers, shippers/receivers, and competition knows. I do repeat work. Over and over so everyone can see the quality. At three big grocery distributors I get treated well. First one to get off loaded, every time at one. And fast at two others. At the cross dock I skip the line of trucks in the yard. They recognize my truck, my attitude, Do I tip, yes if it’s a double stack and I want them to go easy on the trailer. Will there be freebies on Christmas, you betcha.

    Ok, look.....
#1, nobody gives a poop what your truck looks like.
#2, they care about as much as what YOU look like.
They care about (in no particular order):
1, did you show up on time?
2, is it what we ordered?

Give a rest guys. The days of "smartly dressed trucker with a smartly accessorized truck so we'll take him first", are LONG over.
