Sweet baby Jebus…a dude comes in and is proud of getting his authority up and running and finding a customer and what does he get for sharing? He gets crapped on. Some of y’all’s self esteem is clearly in the toilet. You can’t be happy for anyone else that is happy. No, you have to try and tear them apart. Effin pathetic.

    Bravo.

Agreed 100%. The shipper I use to get a load leaving home requires it to be on property. When I show up they know they won’t get a radio call from the safety guy because I’m out of the truck without PPE. That’s all.

    You mentioned your pedigree:
I’ve never seen your posts around this forum before, I guess we hang out in different areas.
Your day-to-day and career experiences in Trucking does not eliminate the possibility of someone else having a different experience trucking or in business.

Different clientele have different expectations for vendors. If no shipper/receiver in your sphere ever cares about carrier presentation or the caliber of operation- only the bottom line; carriers who meet only that threshold will be there to service those customers.

We can all look thru this thread and see who operates in the way we our (individual) selves operate. Some people bring top service to customers that appreciate it, some people bring availability in tight markets, some people change their tactics depending on location and market conditions, some people bring a massive chip on their shoulder and a grudge against ever changing.

Doing something a particular way for a long period of time does not make it the only way to do it; nor the correct way to do it.

I guess I'm missing your point and perhaps you missed mine.
My point was basically, "how did you get to where you are in a month?"

You're old school and I respect that. And I understand that you got to where you are by hard work.

That didn't happen in a month, ok?

You're referencing a 'driver' that bought a truck, a trailer, and authority BEFORE he got a CDL. And now states that he has multiple opportunities for direct freight.

Why is that not something to question?

Why do you have to question whether or not he got some direct freight opportunities only a month in.

Why did you refer to someone who did what he did as a "moron".

A lot of people here would call you a "moron" for being a Lease Op for a Mega Carrier, despite the fact that you did alright, met your own personal needs and potentially had some okay times while doing it. Does that make you an actual moron? Are you a failure because you sold out and went back company? Nope. You did things your way and you repeatedly give the impression you don't give a crap if someone else here disagrees with your choices, actions and motives.

Yet here you are, being that guy.

Please quote me where I said I had multiple direct freight. I didn’t! You see what you want to see.

I want to be fair with you. I went back to read your posts again and indeed you did not say anything like that. All you said was this:

"My phone literally rings all day. People calling that know I won’t haul for less than $3. Whether its a broker or shipper your job is to make their job easy."

"Many will scoff at this because I’m new and don’t know. And you are correct I am brand new as a carrier. But I spent years as a customer of this industry shipping tens of millions of dollars on open deck. So I know a little about what the customer wants."

I've done maybe 1000 loads as an authority, which were never compromised or late - except for two times when I broke down on the road -
and I wish someone were to call me even in good times like you are called in these difficult days.

I don't envy you or anything like that but in order for you to be an inspiration, you'd have to tell us the real story behind your current success - And I advise you not to because I am of an opinion that it is none of anyone's business to know the details of your success. What I disagree with is that you sounded like the best soldier in the trenches and your bayonet is the most formidable and feared by the enemy. I received it negatively too because you made it sound like you were special and the rest are bums.
The main point of your story is that you were able to capitalize on your previous career and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that - that itself is inspiring- but it was not done by your service par excellence. At least not yet.

If it is so true that service quality is such a distinctive factor in the open deck segment then it must be abysmally different than what I've seen in the dry van world.

You made me think though, I think I'll look for a step deck and a bunch of chains... how many pieces of 4X4s am I going to need in addition to that or what else?
    Just kidding...

My post wasn’t directed at you. I’ve never been on the van side but have friends that have. I think some open deck work is similar to dry van in that you are hauling commodities to or from a DC. I try to do as little as possible of that. I want the load that the guy supervising it just spent the last 6 months making it. I like the personal interaction. I know I have a hard time expressing myself on paper. I know I don’t have all the answers. Just trying to show something can be done in this environment.
