If you don't know where to find the work you'd probably be better off to lease on to a company that does, right ?

Are you gonna lease your truck or truck and trailer on to a carrier or try getting Authority? I would recomend leasing to a company, You will most likely have to stay in Texas until you are 21. Do you have any experience at all?. You could try a custom harvester for the wheat and corn silage harvest, that will get you around some age restrictions. My boy went on the harvest when he was 19 and he learned much more than any school could have taught him. He just turned 22 on december 4 and has a peterbilt 379 leased to a good company in North Eastern Iowa pulling drop deck and flatbed trailers and in my opinion he is doing quite well. c pape posted a thing on here a few weeks ago about young drivers ,you should read what he had to say and abide by it. Some thing else you could do is try to get on with a feedlot as a company driver ,that experience along the harvest experience will last you a lifetime. then go become an owner operator. Big Bad Bill on here may have some advise for you also. good luck and best wishes

Insurance at your age running your authority would be extremly high. If you could even get it.

Good luck with the insurance. That alone will kill your profits at your age. I think its tough to even get a job as a company driver under 21 years old. Huge expense!

Where do you live in Texas? There are quite a few dump trucks and oil field trucks in the state. I would expect that you will need to be at least 21 to get on with most of them. Most carriers require drivers and owner operators to be at least 23 years old due to insurance requirements. Some even require 25 years of age. If you are planning on leasing to a carrier, insurance won't be as much of an issue other than comprehensive or collision on your equipment. Running your own authority will be expensive when it comes to your insurance. Rates will be very high until you get a little older and gain some experience. I would recommend that you find a company where you can start and save your money until you can get some experience. Once you get another birthday or two behind you, it will be much easier to get hired on with a company or get a lease.
