I have been working under the table for the past 8 months and I am wondering if this is going to be a problem finding a trucking job. I have been working for the same guy and he CAN verify it. I used this money to pay for trucking school an my means of living for the past 8 months. Do you think this is going to keep me from being hired from most companies? thank you

I plan on going OTR but starting out with a trainer like all recent graduates. This trucking job will be my first trucking job- the job I did under the table was landscaping/plowing which I used to pay for a private trucking school to secure my CDL

Why? There are plenty of companies out there that offer free trucking schools and free training as long you stay with them for a minimum of one year. Not to mention that you will more than likely end up with one of them anyway. Of course, you won't have to stay with them for a year, but you will still nonetheless need at least a year of experience first to get a better paying trucking job in any event. Indeed, you could have saved your money or gone to work driving a truck much faster.

Just put down you were unemployed and not working for 8 months if it's gonna be a problem verifying it, no big deal.

ya unfortunatly trucking companies are not gonna count that so ur back to square one i was in the same boat either check out small companies 1-40 trucks and plead with them ur case otherwise its back to school for a refresher course in there eyes ur still a rookie

small companies usually want 2 years from when u got ur license remember insurance companies only look at numbers so if u dont have atleast one year of having ur cdl dont even waste ur time get the refresher course ya it cost money but u really have no choice

if u have said year on ur license try the small ones and hope for the best

Why's everyone keep thinking he's looking for jobs that need experience? He's said a few times he never drove before. Anyway, you'll be fine. 8 months of unemployment isn't that bad anyway, and if your boss is willing to to vouch for you, then just explain to your recruiter that you worked under the table. From what I've seen, they're ok with that. Again, they'd probably be fine with 8 months unemployment as long as your prior history is fine and your license is clean. Good luck with your first company. Try to stay away from the lousier starting companies (Swift Werner). Doing some research before choosing your first company will be a tremendous asset.

I passed my CDL road test 3 days ago. I also have ALL endorsements and am waiting to hear back from the background check which will come back clean I never been arrested I also have a clean MVR. @Olympian I paid for private school because It was cheap a quick and IMO cheap $3k. I don't want to be on contract with a mega carrier making that much less when I have the means to pay for training my self. I am 24 I have no wife or kids or pets. I have one bill of $200 I pay a month money is not tight.

    *background check for hazmat

ahhh ok i take it u went to an accredited school? if that is the case and as long as the required training hours are met then it should not be a problem mind you CDL's have somewhat of a shelf life after school usually 6 months with out requiring a refresher course under the table as long as it can be verified ur options are the big and small companies that hire recent grads so u have some lee way my opinion stick to the smaller outfits less chance of getting hired but if u do usually much better overall expierence and pay i know companies that pay newbes .40 cent a mile it's just all in where u look like stated before try and stay away from the mega's crap pay crap training, and definate crap trucks good luck
