REALLY? The unemployment is the issue? That seems weird. Tell them you voluntarily left the work force and leave it at that. My friend took two years off after he got an inheritence and had zero problems getting a job. Of course he had a perfect driving record, and no criminal history.

Women leave the work force for 15 years then get a job. Men do too. It's not a crime to be unemployed.

Hello! I was excepted by CR England and CRST, but Prime actually turned me down. The recruiter told me I needed 3 years consistent work history. I was laid off in December of 2012, collected unemployment until 11/2013. Before being laid off, I was with the same corporation for 10 years. She told me the only issue with my app was the gap in work history. She told me I needed to get a job somewhere (anywhere) then after 3 months re-apply. I don't know if anyone had this experience, but that's what the recruiter "Kelly" told me.

I'd go with CRST over England. CRST has lots of runs through GA.
Millis Transfer has an excellent school in GA.
    Midwest-Coast Transport has CDL school.

Thanks Chinatown. I am now thinking of a private and then applying with Schneider. I like there training program for new graduates, but if I do go the other route, I am considering CRST, just because of the runs through GA. I saw that they have a terminal here, so I figured that would mean something good. I will add Millis and Midwest to my list and look into those as well.

Prime is notorious for being crazy on working gaps, most companies aren't. It might be cause they pay for your training though. Also be aware Prime just lost a huge lawsuit for blackballing and telling lies about drivers on their DAC reports. Prime also has the slowest trucks on the road. They have a decent training program, but they are a pretty bad company with a bad reputation for being bad to their drives - they just lost a lawsuit about it - and for pushing their Lease rip off program down your throat. Consider youself lucky that Prime turned you down, you don't need their nonsense anyway.

Prime is so stupid - go get a job at McDonalds for three months so you can be a truck driver. What kind of bull is that? Do nurses have to go get a job at Taco Bell so they can go be a Nurse? It is utter complete nonsense. And Prime just lost a lawsuit for putting misinformation and lies and driver's DAC reports. To heck with Prime.

I was curious as to how,in the two years that you have been driving, could you possibly know so much regarding who hires and whom will not? are you an ex recruiter w/inside knowledge? If so,why did it not work out?

really man.a dude comes on here seeking advice and you give him a gut punch, posting as if you are a trucking industry veteran.

OP-don't take what these "veteran"(the 1-2 year expert) drivers post to heart.I actually have been around all forms of transportation for a number of years and i can honestly tell you that your very old indiscretions will not prevent you from driving a truck. you were with one employer for 20 years.many drivers have 20 driving jobs in 5 years.that fact alone will open doors for you,I don't care what this poster(the one i quoted) declares.I am openly disputing his/her assertion regarding your inability to get hired by their thought processes/expert opinion.you will be hired and it more than likely be due to that 20 year stint at one employer.Longevity,in trucking at least,is not a core value that most drivers possess.job hopping is rampant in this industry.

As opposed to online, phoning in, and etc.,actually darken the doorways of potential employers by showing up,IN PERSON,and winning them over by going the extra mile so to speak.that in and of itself separates you from the hundreds of other potential hires that they encounter via the internet and phones on a daily basis.heck, the recruiter might be an old lover from decades back and she,i guess you are a dude, and if the recruiter is female, all that hypothetical/heterosexual stuff, and you two have some good memories.better yet,she may want to get to know you.you just never know.w/20 years at one job,you won't need any inside help but why not take it if it is made available.for that matter, you may not even know if it was made available.

almost as if i type from past experiences,is it not?

I am just declaring that people are hired and often that hiring decision is not based solely on one's past employment record nor record in general. In your case however, your employment record will play a poitive role.20 years at one place.KUDOS.you have what many lack out here as truckers have always been known to roam, job to job,for no reason other than to drive a faster/bigger truck.I plead guilty to that myself.

my point is to simply introduce yourself and fill out the app in person.

I do know that many are just naysayers on here regrdless whereas i am simply a smartarse.
I have been around long enough to truly know that this is trucking and things happen when you think they should not,for what that is worth.smaller outfits can work w/you more so than the megas as you are typically dealing w/the owner or just under when applying to smaller companies.

you'll be fine.just keep plugging away.I got carried away and added to and typed but i felt obligated after the one poster's reply.I got on a positive rant for once.best of luck-
