Can anyone tell me what the union driving jobs are all about? I have driven before and since I will be starting a new driving job soon that is union, I don't know the difference between that and non union.

It's pretty much the same as a union job in any field vs a non union job in the same field.

Google pros and cons of union membership.

I have done that. I have never had a union job so I don't know the difference in a union vs non union job in any other field. Not sure what to expect.

Do your job and you won't need to worry about the union, you'll be payed better then most and other perks. Nothing to be concerned about.

Unions work on a contract with your company. As a worker, you're not going to notice too much of a difference. If you do your job, you'll just be another face in the crowd, and if you do a terrible job, you'll be unemployed soon. Most union contracts work to guarantee reasonable raises, better pay, benefits... Whenever there's any issue between you and your boss, you're typically allowed to have someone sit in on the meeting, someone elected by the other workers, who make sure that any disciplinary action is justified and following company rules.

You're going to be paying dues every check, get used to that, but you're paying for job security and fair treatment. For trucking, when it comes to any legal issues, like your job trying to force you to drive illegally, or drive an unsafe truck, most union lawyers will speak up for you, and protect your rights as a worker. It gets rid of the complicated, "they can't force you to drive illegally, but they can fire you in 2 weeks because you were 3 minutes late on a delivery."

    Shock Therapy Thanks this.

Thanks for the information. Alright, what is this bidding thing that is done on seniority. Is that like an auction of some sort. How do you bid on your miles? I saw a post on here about and about a extra board, then laydowns and all the union terminology. Any info on that
