    That depends.

    Generally? No. There are plenty of non-union truck driving jobs.

    However, there are also some "closed shop" companies at which union membership will be required in order to fill one of their truck driving jobs...

    ...unless, of course, you happen to be in a "right to work" state, in which case union membership cannot be forced upon you as a condition of your employment.

    There are too many possible variables to give a simple answer.

    I have had only one experience with a union. It was not a good one. Of course I am sure most are not like the one I was in. I have just sworn never to join one again, after the experience. Just my personal preference.

    Good to hear that there are options.

    I live in Southern California (not right not work). I guess that I will search out non-union companies.

    Teamster's or Longshoremans is the only way to go if you go UNION in Cali. BTW Im not union so Im not speaking on behalf of either.
