Alright, I tried to post the whole content of this message in the thread. I couldn't find the right section of this forum, so I suppose the Noob thread would be mine=):biggrin_2559:

I have been scouring this forum for advice. I was a lurker, had a heckuva time registering (that question about Put in Box..... threw me off for a few turns, haven't had that one in the millions of past forums I've been in). I read about CDL mills (saving me time and money), and have been studying companies to work for (Just say NO to JB Hunt), etc. I've been here several months.

    Okay, here's the deal.

All of this information is relevant, so I'm not looking for condemnation or judgement. It's just relevant to the ultimate question. (edit) I've written this twice, shortened it down to mini-book size, and here is the result.(end of edit)

I was born both male and female. My parents were suggested by the doctor to pick one since if I remained both, I'd be nonfunctional as either. So they chose male. I always thought I was strange, since I started growing breasts at an early age. As you can imagine, finding work was a joy.

My grandfather, on his death bed, confessed the story to me, and I immediately went off the male hormones and changed my name to a more feminine name.

Fortunately, most companies that I've applied to only ask for 3 years of employment, and all of the companies I've worked for (2) have the new name as the one I worked under. One I was at for 6 years, the other since June.

I applied to three driving schools before I found this site:

    Drivers Solutions
    CRST
    Can't remember the third :biggrin_2552:

I found these before I found this site.

Drivers Solutions called me and told me that my record was clear, they just wouldn't be able to place me for training until mid January. They clamied they couldn't find any because of the Christmas holidays. I accepted their story as legit until CRST, the CDL mill, called me today and told me that they were rejecting my application!?!?!?!??!?!!?!?

Okay, there is something wrong here. I'm ripping my hair out wondering what it could be, but I have a sneaky suspicion what it is......

I've had to tell, on both applications, my previous name as a previously held driver's license. I had to explain that to CRST, and now I'm rejected.

I've driven for RPS before as a male, so I have the experience with a Stepvan type truck. Of course, that doesn't begin to qualify for tractor trailer, but I LOVED delivery for RPS.

I was laid off my welding job, and found this site. I have since applied and been accepted to my college school for truck driving (thanks to this site for the suggestion!!!! Still gonna cost $5000, but I get to take it as many times as necessary with no additional charge if I fail the final CDL), but before I actually submit the financial aid paperwork and my deposit, I need the advice of you on here. The search engine for this site had nothing on this topic, so here's a first.

My local unemployment office said my driving record is clean with +3 points.

What in the world would stop a CDL mill from wanting me? And if it's because of the history above, am I wasting my money by going to college?

I was told by a trucker friend that if there was one industry that didn't care about what I looked like, then it was this one. It's not easy having a large chest and trying to pass as a male, and it's not easy having a masculine face and trying to pass as a female either.

So this is a dream job. Delivery, OTR, just me, a CB, and a cup of coffee to keep me awake.

Please tell me... am I wasting my time? I thank you in advance for your responses. :biggrin_25514:

Driver solutions was probably telling you the truth. This is kind of a bad time of the year to start training. It is best to wait until after the first of the year. Look at the CRST rejection as a blessing. they only run teams and I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to share a small truck with anyone.

As far as your situation I don't really see that being a problem with you finding a job. As long as you can pass a physical and show enough ability to drive you should be ok.

Personally, if it was me I would go to the community college to get your cdl. Especially if you can get a grant to pay for it. That will keep you from having to sign a contract with any company.

Good luck to you I am sure it will all work out. Try not to get to discouraged.

    Thanks for the response.

What in the world would make a CDL Mill turn someone down though? They told me I could find out if I sent a letter, but I told them "Thanks Anyway."

Honestly, I don't know. It could have been the points on your license or your job history or a number of other things. I wouldn't worry much about it though. Like I said in the other post. You are better off without them.

Just keep trying! That must be difficult, but you sound like you have a-lot of courage! You might have to go through a few more companys but sooner or later your bound to find somebody not so phobic-that would be willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. it might just take a little longer. Dont you still have the same Liscense number? maybe you woul'dnt
have to bring up the name change? but then there's the previous employment issue??? thats a tough one??? anyway keep tryin! I wish you luck!!!
P.s look at community colleges they can be a-lot cheeper and some grants will help pay for it.

Well, it is a community college that I'm going to, and they pretty much guarantee employment after graduating.

The social is still the same.

I'm just wondering if I'm getting screwed because of the above history, or if it's something else.

I'm going to call my references tomorrow to do a reference check, that's the only other thing I can think of.

Do they review credit at CDL mills?

Some of them do but I don't know if CRST is one of them.

CDL mills aren't going to be the problem if you have a bad credit history. Most large companies run a credit history as part of the background check. Insurance Companies don't like underwriting employees who might be a risk for insurance fraud or theft. So, if your credit history is sketchy, it might be difficult.
NOT that you have bad credit, but you implied that your previous history was as a male; using one name, now you identify yourself as a female; using a different name.

My step-grandson was born with Klinefelter Syndrome, so I have read about the symptoms and treatments. Perhaps, the CDL mill assumes that is your condition and they are concerned about everything from upper body strength to ability to handle stress. Or, they are simply prejudiced.

DOes that mean that women don't have the strength to operate a truck?
I wish someone would have told my mother....back in 1975, and she's a tiny woman.
