How is 1099 fraud if it's allowed by the IRS??? It's a LEGAL tax status that simply requires you to file your taxes in a particular way. You're assuming I don't pay my taxes because....????
You know what they say about ASSumptions and all that, right???
You must be one of these folks that knocks the president for using LEGAL tax loopholes that anyone else can use. I mean, I guess I'm sorry for using a tax status that allows me to use tax code to not give Master Daddy Government as much money as I can, like you do.
That's a good boy.

Hey, it's entertaining at least. -
Then you've got W-2s that shut down overnight leaving dozens if not hundreds drivers stranded on the road with no fuel and no pay and no money for an attorney. Tell me that doesn't happen??
So yeah, no, the notion that simply avoiding 1099 chicago companies will stop any wage issues is quantifiably, unequivocally stupid.Last edited: Oct 10, 2020

OP, you're getting too upset. Many of us have gone the 1099 route. I did it for several years while trying to rehab my career. There is nothing wrong with making that choice, as we all gotta do what is necessary to provide, even as it may be unethical at times. When you go to one of those companies in Chicago, you'll know within minutes that they are some crooks. They go by there own rules. I know, I've been there. Yes you'll pay that escrow and you will never see that money back. You cut your losses and move on. Those types of companies, you use them to rehab your career, to give yourself some time to let violations fall off, etc. Once that had occurred, get out. You did right to get out. Now you're going to get backlash on here, as the members respect this industry. You just have to admit to yourself that you chose a bad company, and now you can go somewhere else if your record is good. Some people will be critical as they've never had to go that route, ignore em. Are you going to work somewhere else?

The IRS allows use of contractor (1099) status only if certain criteria are met. Because of variations in business relationships, each situation should be evaluated on its own merits to determine the legality of the arrangement. Use the following link for additional information from the IRS.

Folks can get on the high horse and dump on me for a seatbelt ticket but outright calling drivers cheats for no reason isn't cool.
I didn't attack anyone, I just came to report my experience with a company. Some folks seem to have this need to go to every post and drill the driver while always giving the companies the benefit of a doubt. Bottom line is I got out here and did honest work and my pay wasn't received. Salute to all of the Super Truckers out there that remember to follow EVERY rule, but yeah I forgot to have paper logs on the truck and didnt put my seatbelt on after fueling at the Loves before hitting that scale. Unless previously agreed to, That is not a reason to steal a man's paycheck. Period.
And again W2 Megas based thousands of miles from Chicago run by American citizens are getting sued (and settling) for millions constantly for cheating drivers and Owner Ops out of money. The myth that simply avoiding 1099s will guarantee you don't deal with wage theft is again, quantifiably and unequivocally false.
Fun and somewhat informative convo though, thanks.Last edited: Oct 11, 2020
