More than likely a creditor callin in a debt
As for CF....Menlo Park had been positioning themselves for that shutdown for almost a decade...From the first regional fleet buyout the used to create the CCX etc system
And they couldn’t have possibly done it any dirtier....Stranded thousands of drivers....I was at Rip-Offs in Barstow that am
CHP—Sherriff Dept—and locals at gate with mgmt
Stopped every truck outside...told drivers to take personal possessions and go away

True dat. They built Conway out of CF money and when Conway became profitable, they shut down CF.
And that's a true story, friends.
(I was working for Conway at the time.)

Oh yeah. Anybody remember what weekend/holiday it was?
Just a giant middle finger to the Teamsters.

When CF shutdown it was September 3,2002-Labor Day weekend.
    And boy,were people pissed!!
They had a terminal in my hometown (Elgin,IL-on Weld Road) and when people were going to work after the Labor Day weekend had ended only to find the gates closed and padlocked it was a shock to the system!
In addition, because of the bankruptcy filing at the time the WARN Act didn’t apply.
Either way, the City of Elgin and the State of Illinois were not happy!

This is the way it tends to go. Once the decision is made it's hard to make a soft landing. Your most capable staff will head to the exits while thge less scrupulus will milk the clock and help themselves to inventory. Accounts receivable will be uncollectable while accounts payable will be deluged with demands making cash flow nonexistent.

CEO and CFO didn't plan for the turning tide and probably bought a bunch of equipment at obscene prices and got fired. Whomever stepped in tried to put out the fire and then decided there was no way to save the barn so they moved to protect the other buildings.

Not even then - they were disappointed in the size of their kickback.:)

Yeah, ummm there weren’t any kickbacks involved here. The city still benefited. They were able to pay down their debt, and fixed A LOT of the roads and neighborhoods that had been neglected for decades (especially south of the downtown area). As a consequence, new investment was brought to the city. I should know,I was born and raised there. At the time before the riverboat came the city was close to considering bankruptcy but afterwards the city’s fortunes changed almost overnight.

My question would have been: If I am being laid off, I gotta get what I can get... how much is it worth to ya for me to bring it back?
